~A Young Father's Prayer~ Lord I'm asking for Your help To raise my little son, Give me strength and guide me As I teach this Little one. You sent this angel to me A little heaven here on earth, For now I know my place in life... I'm no longer who comes first. Once I had no answer As to why it is I'm here, But when I look into my baby's eyes.... It all becomes so clear. This little bit of heaven Owns me, heart and soul And it's You that sent him to me A greater love I'll never know. So take these rugged hands of mine Help me to understand, Just what it is I need to do To raise this little man. Help me build a boy that knows It's You that holds the key, To all that heaven holds for us Show him Your love through me. |

* Prayer in thanksgiving for rain Thank you for the rain, Lord It's raining now at night The lightning flash, the thunder crack That tell us of your might For all good things, they come from you Each drop, each ray of light Thank you for this shower, Lord Each roll, each flash of bright Thank you for the rain, Lord The life that comes in drops The wet, wet grass, the rivulets The splashy puddle plops For all our land was parched with thirst The trees, the grass, the crops Please let it fall, please give us more Until this drought, it stops And as the year begins to wane And cooler winds do blow Let not our moisture cease again Please send us lots of snow Fill our mountains, fill them deep Let heaven snowflakes sow Let the seeds of spring be sown Let the rivers flow Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord Our pleas were not in vain Almighty Father, good and loving Thank you for the rain |

Prayer for Soldiers Father, hold our soldiers in your loving hands. Keep them from spiritual and bodily harm. Place them under the protective mantle of our Blessed Mother Mary and send St. Michael and the holy angels before them in every danger. Give them and their families courage, strength and hope. In your mercy, grant peace to all your children in every nation on earth. We praise you and thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. |

Georgina, it is good you remind us to pray for members of our military services in dangerous areas of the world. There are of course also civilians involved but we only hear of them when they are killed or injured. |

Rose. In early August you quoted a prayer in thanksgiving for rain. What about one for a spell of dry, sunny weather? |

Living Bread Ah! Lord let me hide in your face. There I'll no longer hear the world's vain noise. Give me your love, keep me in your grace Just for today. Near your divine Heart, I forget all passing things. I no longer dread the fears of the night. Ah! Jesus, give me a place in your Heart Just for today. Living Bread, Bread of Heaven, divine Eucharist, O sacred Mystery! that Love has brought forth... Come live in my heart, Jesus, my white Host, Just for today. Deign to unite me to you, Holy and sacred Vine, And my weak branch will give you its fruit, And I'll be able to offer you a cluster of golden grapes Lord, from today on. I've just this fleeting day to form This cluster of love, whose seeds are souls. Ah! give me, Jesus, the fire of an Apostle Just for today. Saint Therese of Lisieux Doctor of the Church.

For all those taking exams O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us. |

VATICAN CITY, 24 MAY 2009 (VIS) - At 6 p.m. today, after celebrating Vespers, the Pope travelled by car to the Polish military cemetery at Montecassino which contains the bodies of 1,052 soldiers who died in the battle of May 1944 against German forces occupying the hill on which the abbey stands. The Holy Father lit a votive candle and recited the following prayer for the fallen of all countries in all wars: "O God, our Father, endless source of life and peace, welcome into Your merciful embrace the fallen of the war that raged here, the fallen on all wars that have bloodied the earth. Grant that they may enjoy the light that does not fail, which in the reflection of Your splendour illumines the consciences of all men and women of good will. You, Who in Your Son Jesus Christ gave suffering humanity a glorious witness of Your love for us, You, Who in our Lord Christ gave us the sign of a suffering that is never in vain, but fruitful in Your redeeming power, grant those who yet suffer for the blind violence of fratricidal wars the strength of the hope that does not fade, the dream of a definitive civilisation of live, the courage of a real and daily activity of peace. Give us your Paraclete Spirit so that the men of our time may understand that the gift of peace is much more precious than any corruptible treasure, and that while awaiting the day that does not end we are all called to be builders of peace for the future of Your children. Make all Christians more convinced witnesses of life, the inestimable gift of Your love, You Who live and reign for ever and ever Amen". |

Our Lady of Lourdes O Holy Virgin, in the midst of your days of glory, do not forget the sorrows of this earth. Cast a merciful glance upon those who are suffering, struggling against difficulties, with their lips constantly pressed against life's bitter cup. Have pity on those who love each other and are separated. Have pity on our rebellious hearts. Have pity on our weak faith. Have pity on those we love. Have pity on those who weep, on those who pray, on those who fear. Grant hope and peace to all. Amen. |

The Prayer of St. Francis de Sales Be at Peace : Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life; rather look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. He has kept you hitherto, and He will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in his arms. Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and everyday. He will either shield you from suffering, or will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace , and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginings. |

This may be on the wrong thread but I leave that to the moderators It seems that some prayers are not always to everyone’s taste. When Pastor Joe Wright was invited to make the opening prayer in the senate of the Kansas House of Representatives this is what the politicians heard : Lord, we come before you this day to ask forgiveness and ask for your address, We know your word says, “Damn those who call good what is bad” and that is exactly what we did. We lost the spiritual balance and we have changed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it luck We have rewarded laziness and called it social We have killed our children yet unborn and we have called it freedom of choice We have killed our people and we have called it justice We have been remiss to discipline our children and we have called it develop self esteem We have abused power and called it political We have coveted our neighbour’s property and that we’ve called ambition We have polluted the airwaves and television with great rudeness and pornography and we have called it freedom of expression We have ridicule the values established long ago by our ancestors and we have called it the obsolete past Oh God, look deep in our hearts , and purify us and free us from our sins. Amen (J.Wright) One deputy left the room before the prayer ended, three others objected and criticized the Pastor, calling the prayer a message of intolerance. |

Prayer of Bl Dominic Barberi My Jesus, you alone are my Light, my Strength, my All. You have taken my weaknesses, to give me in return, Your Strength. Blindfolded, you give sight to my eyes: bound, you loosen my chains; Experiencing bitterness, You give sweetness to all who come to you; Humbled, you raise others to glory; dead, you Give back life to me. My Jesus, in you I find all things, outside of you I find nothing. Let those who will seek find but you in this poor world, for me it is enough to have found Jesus. Henceforth, my life must be consecrated to Jesus, to his glory, to his love. But Lord, sustain me, support me, do not trust in me nor in my poor resolutions. Amen
