The late John Cardinal O'Connor's Prayer for Priests

Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in THEIR needs.

We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, annointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.

Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith.

We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread.

We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours.

Amen.
Pope John Paul II, decreed that the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart be a world day of prayer for priests. This year, the solemnity falls on Friday 30 May.

Saint Thérèse's devotion to the Priesthood is to be found in all its fullness in a prayer which she used to say daily and which she learnt off by heart; this is all the more remarkable in view of her known distaste for lengthy set forms of prayer.

O Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of Thy Divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John
who stood at the foot of the Cross;priests: who as a pledge of Thine own most tender love will lovingly give Thy Divine Son to the souls of men.
May Thy priests be faithful guardians of Thy Church,as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house.
Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother's care and thoughtfulness towards Thy children.
May they teach souls to enter into close union with Thee through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of Thy Divine Heart.
Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem.
Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for Thy beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in thy school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of thine own spotless love.
Amen.

Pope John Paul II's Prayer for Vocations

May an ardent prayer sustained by the motherly intercession of Mary, rise from every corner of the earth, to the heavenly Father to obtain "labourers for his harvest" (Mt 9,38). May He give zealous and holy priests to every part of his flock. Sustained by this awareness we turn to Christ, the High Priest, and we pray to Him with renewed trust:
Jesus, Son of God, in whom the fullness of the Divinity dwells,You call all the baptized to " put out into the deep", taking the path that leads to holiness. Waken in the hearts of young people the desire to be witnesses in the world of today to the power of your love. Fill them with your Spirit of fortitude and prudence, so that they may be able to discover the full truth about themselves and their own vocation.

Our Saviour, sent by the Father to reveal His merciful love, give to your Church the gift of young people who are ready to put out into the deep, to be the sign among their brothers of Your presence which renews and saves.

Holy Virgin, Mother of the Redeemer, sure guide on the way towards God and towards neighbour, You who pondered his word in the depth of your heart, sustain with your motherly intercession our families and our ecclesial communities, so that they may help adolescents and young people to answer generously the call of the Lord. Amen.

Prayer for vocations. A prayer that is short enough to remember, and short enough to say every day.

Father,
Things are a real mess down here.
You must have noticed this, and I know it must bother you,
but I don’t know what you are doing about it.

I wonder if you are telling us to do something about it.
If so, Father, please tell us what you want us to do, and help us to do it.

Please help us to stay on the straight and narrow.
Please send us priests to guide us.
Please help each one of us to hear your call to our true vocation in life,
And give us the strength to answer that call.
And please Father inspire parents to foster vocations in their children, and help us to encourage those who hear your call.
I ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests, for Your unfaithful and tepid priests; for Your priests labouring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Your tempted priests; for Your lonely and desolate priests; for Your young priests; for Your dying priests; for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.

But above all I recommend to You the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me; the priest who absolved me from my sins; the priest at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way. Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

0 Almighty, Eternal God, look upon the face of Thy Son, and for love of Him Who is the Eternal High-priest, have pity on Thy priests. Remember, 0 most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the Bishop's hands. Keep them close to Thee, lest the enemy prevail against them so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

0 Jesus, I pray Thee for Thy faithful and fervent priests; for Thy unfaithful and tepid priests; for Thy priests labouring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Thy tempted priests; for Thy lonely and desolate priests; for Thy young priests; for Thy dying priests; for the souls of Thy priests in Purgatory.

But above all, I commend to Thee the priests dearest to me; the priest who baptized me; the priests who absolved me from my sins; the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Thy Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me or helped and encouraged me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way. 0 Jesus, keep them all, close to Thy heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

Prayer for Priests and Vocations said at The Union of Catholic Mothers meetings.

God our Father, You have chosen to call men and women in every age to reveal Your love and make known the reality of the Incarnation. You invite ALL people to follow You in a life of love and service in Your Church. Enkindle in us a true sense of vocation.

Grant Lord, that those whom You call to enter the Priesthood may accept generously to that the Sacrifice of the Mass will continue to be offered throughout the world. May Priests and Religious be constantly given to Your Church so that people in need will always enjoy, through them, Your ministry of healing and find Your help.

Give us Your grace to recognise the path You are inviting us to take and the courage to respond.

We make our prayers through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

AMEN.

Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. [FSSP]

Prayer of the Confraternity - Following a decade of the Rosary.

Remeber , O Lord, Thy congregation.
Which Thou hast possessed from the beginning.

O Lord Jesus, born to give testimony to the Truth,
Thou who loves unto the end those whom Thou hast chosen, kindly hear our prayers for our pastors.
Thou who knowest all things , knowest that they love Thee and can do all things in Thee who strengthens them.
Sanctify them in Truth, Pour into them, we beseech Thee, the Spirit whom Thou didst give to Thy Apostles, who would make them, in all things, like unto Thee.
Receive the homage of love which they offer up to Thee, who hast graciously received the threefold confession of Peter.
And so that a pure oblation may everywhere be offered without ceasing unto the Most Holy Trinity, graciously enrich their number and keep then in Thy Love, who art one with the Father and the Holy Ghost, to whom be glory and honour forever.

Amen.
