Got sent this link by a friend, a bit worrying if the Germans are serious, how long before Britain and the rest of Europe adopt this as a tool of combating terror crime and extremism, http://clericalwhispers.blogspot.com/2008/...ht-against.html |

At first I wondered whether this had originated in a chain email hoax. Having googled for further information I see Catholic World News reported it on 18th January, so one can assume it is true. Are the German Government so stupid they think confessions can be heard in confessional boxes? Priests and laity can meet where they wish, for confession. The security services would need to bug every tree in the church grounds, the walls, priests' garages, private homes, the whole presbytery, even bus stops. |

Might bring back priest's hide holes. They would also have to have cameras in order to read anything written rather than said. And for sign language would have to have experts viewing. PJD |

And as the Faithful have largely dispensed with Confession it is unlikely to yield much of interest to the police. john |

In my experience of smaller parishes it is not the faithful who have dispensed with the sacrament of reconcillation but the clergy, and if you want your confession heard you will be taken to the side where any passerby will hear it, so the secret police can rest assured that they wont have to spend a fortune on listening devices but just ask the green cardigan brigade what was said, as no doubt it will her that is passing by |

The notion of Al Quaeda members turning up at the confessional seems a shade improbable to me. There is clearly another agenda at work here. QV |

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps Germans ought to start confessing in Latin . . . and mumble a bit . . . set up electronic signals to scramble whatever the snoops might get . . . |

German Intelligence learned that after hearing that Anglicans were converting to the Catholic faith, Osama bin Ladin decided to attend RCIA classes in Berlin. They applied to the courts to have all the confessionals buged so they could record his first confession. Osama had ordered all Moslems in Tora Bora to convert, causing a mass exodus of Moslems to Germany (they had heard that the Pope is German). If you believe any of this then you are as nuts as me. |

Don't the German Police have anything better to do than to bug confessionals? How ridiculous would this be? The German citizens' tax dollars at work....NOT. |

Karin, Since reestablishing the SS would send off bells and whistles, it's easier just to place "bugs." sm |

We could always dunk the bugs in holy water to muffle the sounds. Better still priests could make CD's of Green Cardigan's voice saying "I sinned. I fitted a bug in the police station so I could spy on the cops." Put that inside a confessional, play it while the priest is in the presbytery doing his paperwork. |

I would prefer to find the bug, place a mini tape recorder near it playing endless recordings of Spike Milligan's "Goon Show" specially translated into German, complete with the original voices, sounds and special effects. If it doesn't persuade them to abandon the idea, it'll drive 'em nuts! I know - I use to listen to the Goon Show.

Oh, yeah - like Christian extremism is really a problem they need to worry about. Sounds like just the latest anti-Catholic kink in the liberal hate agenda. Bet they wouldn't dare bug the mosques that are increasing in number in that country. |
