still waiting for the official declaration in the Scottish elections, but it looks like the snp have 47 seats and labour on 46, perhaps they have taking the scots vote for granted to long, what are your thoughts?

I think the reason for the upsurge in popularity of the SNP is partly due to them distancing themselves from the issue of independence, and also these were elections for the Scottish Parliament, not for the General election, where I would predict that Labour would do much better (and perhaps the Conservatives.)

you're probably right timmy not sure about the tories doing well though they were more arrogant to the voters than new labour, (for the record i voted christian peoples alliance), it is good to see people thinking of how to vote instead of just labour because we always have, that is probably the reason labour pushed through samne sex adoptions etc, they have taken our vote for granted for to long

I was up in Scotland during the last fortnight of the election and all my extended family seemed to swing back to Labour ( where their loyalties have always been) because they feared that the SNP in power would revert to its traditional anti-catholic stance.

If the SNP are more anti catholic than labour; then their anti catholicism must really be big time.

Labour in Scotland has been accused of nepitisim.. if Catholic that is historically who you voted for, the Consevitives and unionist were historicly pro the Monarch, a bit anti Catholic, many in Scoland were from poor Irish immigrant stock, so depended on unions and there connections with labour for support with thing like emplyment Health education Housing...

The SNP started up North, generally Protestant we free type... anti Catholic... labour always had a strong hold in Catholic Communities , this I think has been an obsticle for the Church in scotland, and indeed for the SNP as they cant get the Catholic vote ... The SNP have been trying to make an impact and have over the Past year made gestures to the Catholic Powers that be ... time will tell ... the problem is we will probably have an SNP Lib Dem coalition now... I think this may cause problem, the lib dems dont do religion, so the fate of Catholic Education will I belive be an issue. nelly

In that case Nelly the SNP and Liberals may well dig the same pit for themselves as Labour has done (smile).

Jim, you have actually really offended me ... whatever I think of the SNP, to Link them with the BNP, is quite disgusting...
I am sure in all Political Parties there are those who have views that may have problems with immigration, but the BNP, you are out of order Jim

Its Like loosing pass the parcel. For the record I never voted SNP in any of the options I had

Mind you this will be a good distraction, the reat of us can get on with our life... nelly
