New members are coming in at present, on a daily basis.

This thread is a facility for new members.

Some may wish to to tell us something about themselves, here is the place to do it, but only if you want to.

If any members need help navigating the software, or completing their profiles, just send a private message to me, Eve. You can if you wish protect the privacy of your email address by clicking on My Controls, Email settings and clicking a box.

It would help us a lot if some of the new members would tell us how they found Catholic Cyberforum.

Welcome, one and all.

Eve,

Those of us who come here via the nearly defunct (December 31!) Catholic-Pages Forum were invited by KatyA.

A couple - that I've noticed - moderators from C-P have signed on, as have a number of our members.

If Paul leaves the forum up as a read-only collection, the invitation may still draw in others over time.

If not - C-P members could still e-mail each other for some weeks to share information about their search for a new on-line home. Not everyone may be happy with their first choice - certainly I didn't stay with the first or even second. The CyberForum is the third place I checked out, and feels much more "homey" than the others (although another one was very tempting because it used the same software as C-P. So easy to find my way around!)

Personal information:

I live on a farm in western Canada, but I'm working on the farmer to retire. He's that age . . . :P

Our 6 children range in age from 32 to 19. Three are married; two were good enough to provide us with grandchildren this year. The youngest is still at university.

One son is currently thinking of buying out his dad . . . his mom being a city-girl would be very happy to head back to civilization. :sotc:

We used to homeschool; I'm retired from that but am still a great fan. It was the best thing that ever happened to our family.

Since starting to post here, I have been made to feel most welcome, to say nothing of getting tech support as needed. You moderators especially are a great bunch. :)

I'm also a refugee from the catholic-pages, invited by KatyA and happily accepted. This is a very nice forum in that its small, and I can read everything at one sitting!

I'm married to Bill (Papa Buck) these 20 years. We have 8 children on earth ages 18, 17, 15, 13, 11, 7, 5, 2. We have 3 wee ones in heaven, two miscarried just in the last year and some, and one was a twin of the 15 year old.

We do home school because I was very annoyed with the non-Catholic education and bullying my kids endured at their Catholic school, and absolutely knew that the local elementary school would be just as bad for my children's spiritual health. [FYI: Lilo was a great help and encouragment when we were just getting started. She wasn an amazing resource in herself with her experience. She also sent me a stack of articles, lists of websites, book suggestions, curriculum ideas - she is a wealth of information!] Home schooling has worked out very well for us, and the kids are doing quite well. The oldest is now attending Franciscan Univeristy of Steubenville as a history major.

Of our 8 kids, three have Asperger's syndrome (a kind of autism that isn't as limiting as the kind most people hear about, but does have its difficulties for the rest of us. One child has it very mildly and two rather severely. Very smart people in different ways, but not very naturally social, but we're working on it! And making good progress.)

I am a Secular Franciscan, a writer of book reviews and magazine articles when I have something interesting to write about, and my stuff gets published mostly in Lay Witness or Canticle (Women of Grace publishes it) I also write radio plays about Catholic Saints (http://www.holyheroes.com/) and you can see my picture there on the "about us" page. That rather imperious photo was sent in by me as a joke (along with a much nicer one) and they played the joke back by putting it up on the webpage! They are a fun group to work with!

I also make and sell rosary bracelets, repair and repaint plaster statues for parishes, sew and embroider (although arthritis is limited the embroidery) teach religious education to grade 8 at our local parish, read a lot - and wish I had more time for naps :P .

Emee,

Not quite - but right next door in Alberta.

We have been sending offspring to school in BC, though - in Langley.

And one of our boys was married this fall in Coquitlam - beautiful Tridentine High Mass.

Another refugee from Catholic Pages - Forum. Australian, married, hard of hearing, well balanced with a chip on both shoulders, ex-Protestant, short, hair falling out, well known on Cartholic Pages for talking about "my old Protestant pastor", have cat and dog, no sheep, wife Baptist, with a messy desk.

If anybody intends to write a biography, one page would be sufficient, using bullet points.

A|t least the biography would be cheap, perhaps even free on the internet!

Umm. . . Bob, would you care to run that one by your wife?

Of course, if her desk looks like mine . . .

Western Canada is a beautiful part of the world.

Agreed.

If I got it right, this link should take you to photos from trips to BC: western Alberta on the way there, the island, Whistler, White Rock, etc.

Joan M

I am also one of the Catholic-Pages members looking for a home! :P

Originally from Ireland, I moved to Trinidad 35 1/2 years ago with my Trinidadian husband and the first of my 2 sons.

I work full time (thinking seriously about retiring at the end of 2008) as a Financial Manager in one of the biggest Insurance companies in Trinidad.

Until about 6 years ago I was active in Taekwondo - I am a 3rd Dan Black Belt and was an International Referee for about 5 years.

I am a member of Opus Dei, which I met in Trinidad (although O. D. was in Ireland since 1948). We just had a fundraising Family Christmas Dinner on December 15th - the funds are for a new Center that we purchased with no money two years ago! No, we didn't get it for nothing, we had nothing! We are now indebted to the bank and must fundraise regularly to pay our mortgage!

I enjoy reading - currently reading (besides murder mysteries) Volume 4 of The History of Christendom by Warren Carrol. I also have Volume 5 awaiting my attention.

Looking forward to my three grandchildren opening their gifts and trying out my gift to myself - a new digital camera (a Canon Power Shot).

My youngest son, who lives at home, played keyboard at Mass last night in our parish of residence, is playing guitar right now at the parish we usually attend, and will be back playing keyboard in the local parish in about 35 minutes, as the Bishop will be celebrating Mass there this morning. (It's 8:55 am here as I write this).
Peace and love,

Joan.

Welcome Joan M on this Christmas Day. Your CV was very interesting. Your son seems to be a "Wandering Minstrel" in demand. A Holy and Happy Christmas to you all!

Joan, so far as I know you are our first Opus Dei member. We have one member whose late mother was in Opus Dei. It will be interesting to learn more about it, because the media gave one of our Members of Parliament negative publicity because of her membership.

Thanks for posting the Flickr photos. They certainly brought back many memories of my visit to B.C. We took the train from Agassiz, where my Aunt and Uncle used to live, to Vancouver and on another day took the boat over to Vancouver Island.

I can honestly say I have never experienced anywhere in the world quite like Canada... :D
