Christmas Anticipation Prayer Beginning on St. Andrew the Apostle's feast day, November 30, the following beautiful prayer is traditionally recited fifteen times a day until Christmas. This is a very meditative prayer that helps us increase our awareness of the real focus of Christmas and helps us prepare ourselves spiritually for His coming. Hail and blessed be the hour and moment In which the Son of God was born Of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, [here mention your request] through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen. It's fifteen times every day. I don't think it matters if they are said all at once or throughout the day I was told about this devotion years ago, at school, along with the 4000 Hail Mary's to be said during Advent. I used to try to do both by saying 15 decades of the Rosary with a "Hail and Blessed" after each decade. That still left some extra Hail Mary's to do. It's really hard and I only ever managed to do it once. I still haven't managed to discover the origin of the 4000 Hail Mary's. KatyA |

Nelly, I was trying to be light hearted. Praise songs are the modern hymns (songs) usually praising God and having strong choruses. Here is a link: http://www.ccli.co.uk/richtext.asp?page_id=15&content_id=74 Gerry |

For my own good. I didn't get exactly what I prayed for, but I did get the strength to weather a bad patch. Praying is always beneficial - for ourselves or those for whom we pray KatyA |

Thanks for that link Gerard - interesting article. It appears that the 4000 Hail Mary's is a very old devotion but I still don't know how it started KatyA |

Does anyone know about the 54 day novena? You say 5 mysteries a day for 27 days, with some intention. Then right after you say 5 mysteries a day for 27 more days in thanksgiving, whether your petition was answered or not. I've not done it myself yet, but I intend to! |

Is this a competition? I think first prize should go to the person who has actually prayed the prayer they are suggesting. Gerry |

The only prize on offer is the opportunity to sacrifice a little (or a lot) of time to praise and thank God and to ask Him for our needs or the needs of others. Novenas, whether "public" novenas in our churches or solitary, are a sadly neglected part of our culture. Anyone wishing to offer a novena in preparation for the feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8) should begin today. There are several variations including this nine day novena Novena in honour of the Immaculate Conception and the nine day novena in our Seasonal Devotions Section The Advent preparation novena starts tomorrow and continues until Christmas.
