Rose,

You did not answer my question.
Clare, you did, and thank you,
I think your answer demonstates that I was not being pedantic - just reading the words.

It may not be incumbent on each individual priest to meet these requests. But that they must be met by someone would seem to be a reasonable corollary to our right to request them.

Clare.

Spot on, Clare. In that heavily populated district a priest who is not familiar with pre 1970s liturgy could call in a priest from a nearby parish. They are all capable of learning.

So you are reading it as a right to have the request met.

Gerry I am reading it as good news that a parish priest is showing consideration for his parishioners, that is all.

§ 3 For faithful and priests who request it, the pastor should also allow celebrations in this extraordinary form for special circumstances such as marriages, funerals or occasional celebrations, e.g. pilgrimages.

It would seem rather unreasonable to permit the right to ask without any expectation of acquiescence to the request.

There is a lot of shifting of ground going on in this thread. I agree with your last post. However, I only got involved because saying that the faithful had a right to have the sacrament by the exraordinary form did not seem quite reasonable. I have gone back to the first post and Rose's commentary was about rights to extaordinary forms of the sacramnents. No such right exists. If the opening post had been about reasonable expectations I would not have got involved.

And thats my last word on this particular thread.

Gerry if you click the link, you will see an email address. The parish priest is a very nice helpful man. He might be willing to enlighten you about your queries.
