Karin. Strange, we were just touching on that subject in the thread "Acts" on how we would visualise the early church after pentecost. You have described it eloquently. God Bless. James |

What I was appertaining to in my original post was our own parish church or where ever we attend Mass. Leaving aside the annual Peter's Pence collection and the yearly Mission Appeal. I was asking do we follow one of the Seven Commandments of The Church To Contribute to the Support of Our Pastors. I know that reading on here that ALL members carry out Corporal Works of Mercy Going back to my original post Fr Francis yesterday returned to Ghana ( not Zimbabwe as I stated) where poverty is very acute, and Parishioners have raised £14500 for him to purchase a motor to be able to travel and transport his parishoners to hospital This was achieved by parishoners rolling up their sleeves and holding various events (plus donations). At one of the events a charity concert I nipped outside (for a fag) got talking to a chap who was attending, he asked me about the priest. where he was from etc, and having explained all to him he replied it's a good job there are people like you catholics who believe in helping others. I felt dead chuffed. But I must hasten to add that we were well supported by members of other faiths. £14500 just for rolling up our sleeves. |
