A "tightening up", as you call it, is certainly called for in certain quarters.
Reading some of the postings on this site I detect the presence of a subversive element within the Church, fatally infected by a 1960s attitude to religion and life in general which was characterised at the time as 'do your own thing'.
It's more properly known as moral relativism and is a reprehensible characteristic in any man and most particularly in a Catholic.
It betrays itself initially in a disregard for Church tradition and is quickly followed by an apparent belief that rules do not matter since they are devised, as we know, by wise men for the guidance of fools.
Those of us who recognise that compared to God we are the lowest of fools are happy to obey the rules which his Church lays down. Others, afflicted by the sin of pride, refuse to acknowledge their foolishness and continue to proclaim the irrelevance of custom and tradition and stop only barely short of believing in the irrelevance of order and obedience.

Fortunarus,

I don't think there are that many "Subversive Elements" on this discussion board. Rose sees to that. Of course there are subversive elements within the Church but I think they took root in an organised way somewhat later than the 60's.

I recently obtained an excellent booklet titled, "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing". It has been produced by the catholic.com web site, one of the foremost Catholic apologetics sites in the world. The book gives a detailed account of areas of serious dissent that is blatently out in the open within the Church.

Perhaps you could to give examples of the sort of dissent from Catholic teaching you have found on this site.

Speaking as one subversive element to another Brian have you had had any good reasons to duck lately?

I well remember once giving a prophecy on a board about wolves in sheep's clothing? It didn't work out as I expected. All the sheep left and now only the wolves are left talking to each other.

I hope the LORD doesn't do it again! I got the blame?

Yours in His Name,

Colin.

Sorry Fortunatus,

Pressed the right quote button in the wrong Post! Now this is going to read interesting?

Mrs Jamie. I'm sure there are grumps on this forum just as there are prissy schoolmarms, the odd subversive, several Modernists, a couple of triumphalist trads, a few who are infected by New Labour spin and either can't or won't hold on to a reasoned train of thought, and maybe even a few people whose aim is serious debate.
The latter are probably in the minority.

Well Jamie wasn't far wrong then Clare - he SAID he thought you might qualify under two categories, but his choices were "Triumphant Traditionalist with Prissy Schoolmarm tendencies...."

Colin - PLEASE don't encourage him......

Which just goes to show that Jamie doesn't know me at all, and should quit judging me.

Hi Mrs. Jamie,

He needs encouragement?

I used to be quite partial to the odd prissy shoolmarm, but I married a nurse instead! Not only that but after forty-five years she is still talking to me, occasionally when I am not on here!

She has a terrible habit of spending hours talking to the LORD too you know! You can not get a word in edge ways! But all the family loves the LORD including the Grandchildren.

Now there we might need advice the little girl in her prayers under the blanket asked her teddy, "Who is God's parents and where are they!" Boom boom!

Abject silence and praying furiously I gather! I dare not ask what her answer was. She usually tells it as it is! What's the answer folks?

Yours in his Everlovingtenderkindness,

Colin.

Please do, Mr and Mrs. We have a good discussion on Acts of the Apostles, and Happy Heretic is a discussion with Colin, an Anglican. I am finding his points of view enlightening. If you know of any Latin Masses taking place, we want them posting on Moto Propii thread, please.

When we went away I seem to recall there was much discussion on one thread or another about "praying like a Protestant"....

Personally I think it is rather charming if people pray at ALL, without penalising them for points of style and content, but then I am probably one of those 'Elements' Fortunatus is so exercised about.......

But I confess I am still curious about what this can possibly mean......Perhaps Colin, who seems like a sound sort of chap, can advise......

I just can't make out sometimes who is who on this thread.

Is anything substantial being said?

Good Lord, no! That might be taken as subversive.
