Appeasing the feminists? I could do a really good job of that. The male shook his partner in the middle of the night, and said "Shake a leg, lass. You get the baby and all his gear while I get the transport ready. We're emigrating - NOW, and no you can't mess around having breakfast or putting makeup on. Now lets have no arguments. The instructions were given to me, not you, because I happen to be head of this family. The woman did as she was told and off they went to Egypt. A few years later the same guy told her they were moving back home, and they were goping to get a house in Nazareth, the decision was made and it was non negotiable. The female never raised her voice in protest, she did not contact any womens' empowerment lobbyists, she just upped and went wherever and whenever her partner told her to go." What I see in the real story, is that Joseph, far from being a male chauvinistic pig, was a man of great courage, determination, and protectiveness. He accepted guidance from those who knew more than he, and he acted decisively for the sake of the family. Mary knew she was married to a fine man. They worked together, it was a good marriage. |

I am very amused by the fact that the heads of some departments of our civil service deem it improper to associate some collections with the Christmas message which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Does this mean that they can ignore the laws which have received the Royal Assent because the laws have been signed by the Monarch who is head of the Church of England and signed in the Name of the Lord A.D 2006? |

Which bit shall I do next, Derek? I could start a thread "The Politically Correct Translation of the Bible". For starters, the bloke would be the first sinner. He would be an absolute brute, and coerce his partner to bite the apple. She, cowed into dependence on her partner, and brainwashed into seeing herself as his helpmate, would submit to his dominant behaviour. You see, in those days the only available dwelling was the garden and there was nowhere else she could go and nobody else to turn to. |

There was a building opposite a Northern Hospital, with a big sign, something like like "Sheffield Black Lesbian Support Centre". I remember that place being given funds, but cannot remember whether the money was from the National Lottery or taxation. Ten years later, Christmas Carols are banned. No comment (for the time being). |

Rose What a depressing posting. Londoners have had to put up with this sort of pc fruitcakery for years and I guess many are now immune to it. It is part of the landscape of madness. I imagine the 'complaints' referred to in the jobsworth's letter are almost certainly fictitious or have been made by other jobsworths with axes to grind. Similar behaviour occurs from time to time in the provinces (e.g. the 'Tearful in Torquay' incident where display of a cross was banned by the fruitcake Torbay Council) but generally these things happen mostly in London the centre of so much tomfoolery and nonsense. Let us dismiss those responsible with the contempt they deserve and carry on regardless. :D Sursum Corda! Let us lift up our hearts CARLO |

We do, Carlo, we do, but there are occasions when the tomfoolery is carried out by persons in positions of power. The humanist who caused the furore at Torbay was on TV a week ago. He has strong objections to shops and workplaces having Christmas trimmings, even secular ones, because he has moral objections to celebrating a myth. If I moved to India, Bradford, Birmingham, Leicester or Wolverhampton I would enjoy seeing the Asians celebrating their festivals. We don't have to believe what they believe to enjoy a bit of cheer. |

I'm off out to commit a CRIME. There are some nice evergreen shrubs a hundred yards away. They need trimming. They do not belong to me. Once a month I pay a generous service charge to the owner of those shrubs, so I twist my conscience and claim the right to tidy them up. Well, I only want a little bit. I am going to poke bits of evergreen through the lattice work of two blue plastic mushroom boxes then I will TEMPORARILY STEAL some solar powered lamps from my own garden. I GAVE them to my husband for his birthday, so they are his, not mine, but I WANT them for a week or two. They are to be arranged on the window ledge, elevated on the mushroom boxes, to light up the crib, so when people walk past after dark they will be reminded that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Saviour. Other people will benefit from my crime, so I reckon that makes it ok. |

Yes another story of misguided pc fruitcakery this time sadly from Catholic Lancashire! Why are so many of these people teachers? And there is so often something of the 'teacher knows best' in the attitude of those responsible. Libera nos Spare us CARLO |

Having read the link Gerard gave us, I note that muslim leaders from all over Lancashire are furious about the actions of the head teacher. They WANT the school to give Our Lady her proper title. They, as muslims, believe Jesus was born of a Virgin. We could do with a new National Festival of Fruitcakery, when Muslims and Christians would fill our public parks, parade efigies of the past year's politically correct fruitcakes, and burn them on a bonfire. Burn the efigies, not the fruitcakes. We would stand around the bonfire eating - fruitcake, what else. |
