As Christmas will soon be upon us the writing of Christmas Greeting Cards wil soon start. Let us hope that people start getting the message by sending Nativity Cards. I've often wondered what snowmen, holly, fairies, christmas trees etc has to do with Christmas. We can start the ball rolling by purchasing our cards from our local church. |

Denis, will your church be selling Christmas cards at this time of year? I never buy before Advent. |

Yes Rose One of the churches I attend are. What I was really hinting at was buying from church gives a bit of profit to the Parish and to the Suppliers of these cards, usually Convents and Catholic Orgs, instead of it going to these Muliple Firms who are just there to make a profit from our beliefs. |

Well, we can try to draw attention to the real meaning of Christmas by sending only cards with pictures of the Christmas story. Good idea, Rose, except for those with relations Down Under. I think the last posting date for Oz and New Zealand is just before Advent, usually. Josephine |

Not only should we send Christmas Cards which are Christian and Christmas in theme, we should also ensure that we use suitable "Charity" cards whose purpose is to fund local and international projects. This must be with the proviso that they are in keeping with our Catholic faith. Also ensure that your local church do not sell inappropriate cards or permit to be sold cards which are not in keeping with our Beliefs. So this year I am inviting members to broaden the circle by including cards to Parish, Town and District councillors together with their MP. These are the people who are endeavouring to dechristianise Christmas calling it the "Mid Winter Festival" and various other names. Also please ensure that you send cards to our "seperated" christians and their communities. together with the other various communities to demonstrate that we Catholics truly believe the Christmas message of Peace and Goodwill. Also to acknowledge that we are prepared to stand up for the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. |

I expressed an idea sometime ago about 'Cards' - but it no doubt lost due to the time gap. Never mind; I will repeat the idea in general for all you here slightly modified. Say I wish to send a card to Rose. Now I don't have to actually print and post this special card - I can use the Inbox facility; which means privacy. So I go at it this way: Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. Then tell Our Blessed Lord you offer it up for the intentiion of (in this case) Rose. The Lord will then apply your prayer to her intention. But she will have to know that a prayer has been said for her intention. She knows if her Inbox tells her. She then thinks of what intention she wishes to use it for and, addressing the Lord, offers the prayer said by.......up accordingly. Too complicated I wonder. Not if the circle is not too large. Okay if it is also only used Christmas and Easter. What do you think. PJD |

Oh by the way missed a bit out. You mention Christmas or Easter in the inbox e.g. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. PJD |

For many years now I have made a point of only sending Christmas cards actually relating to the true meaning. I have noticed that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find them in shops or catalogues. Can we start a campaign to get card manufacurers to at least give a nod in the right direction if it's only a snow covered church scene! KatyA |

I am a keen cross stitcher and like to send cards I have cross stitched, but it is incredibly difficult to find suitable Nativity scenes to stitch - all the magazines have loads of Christmas stuff but very few good religious pictures. One magazine I bought the other day has Nativity themes but the figures look like children. Looks like I'll have to use the designs from last year and try to remember which ones sent to which person... |

This quotation is from part of a posting on the Spirituality thread.
I always send Christian Christmas cards. The owner of the local independent shop where I buy them thanks me, because she makes a point in stocking cribs, and Christian cards for all vocations. Our grandchildren will get their presents from us, and a whopping great big card with a nativity scene, so they will know I back their mother in teaching them the true meaning of Christmas. Families are not helped in their efforts, by a monastery wishing readers "Happy Holiday" For members information: The monastery Jaray mentions is not in UK, so there is no point in trying to identify it, unless Jaray decides to tell us. |

Has anybody else sensed that the secular aspect of Christmas is not "being thrown at us" as much as it was in previous years? In our little market town most shops are just starting to put trimmings up. People seem to be talking about it less, though many hvae mentioned they will "enjoy it when the time comes, but we are sick of the hype". Christmas this year seems quite healthy. |
