Why have some priests dropped saying the prayer of contrition , from Psalm 51:2, before the consecration of the Chalice and Host. 'Wash away my iniquity, cleanse me from my sin'. When the priest then washes his hands to symbolize the great purity and inner cleanliness of those who offer or participate in the Sacrifice of the Mass.  Edited by Poesy, Friday, 19.
