Happy Couple!

I have a question about St. Philomena... My friend who was my confirmation sponsor has given me a St. Philomena chaplet and prayer book of the "Living Rosary" prayed in her name, but I am aware that St. Philomena was "demoted" for want of a better word:
So is it ok to pray for her intercession or not? This isn't the first time my friend has given me something "dodgy" ~ she gave me a book about Christina Gallagher whose visions and stigmata were investigated by the Vatican and found to be false, and the autobiography of Oonagh Shanley, an ex-nun who was heavily involved in eastern practises of "spiritual healing". I am beginning to treat very warily anything she suggests now! It was the same friend who secretly baptised her grand-daughter, as I mentioned in another thread. So can anyone shed light on whether St. Philomena is a valid saint? Many thanks, Mrs.P xx
