On behalf of the players, management & supporters may i thank you for the hospitality shown to our club yesterday. We all had a great time & it shows what great support can be shown between football clubs at this level. We will have to arrange a friendly in the close season. We wish you all the best in your remaining games & your quest of the title. |

The Moore on Co. NWCFL Division One May6th 2006 FRIENDSHIP, SCOUSE and £150 Silsden played their last away game of the season on Saturday against the Lairds. We had been invited to stay after the game for a race night. What a great night, Eight races, Eight horses in each, some winners, some losers. A super supper of Scouse! Or in Birkenhead Lamb Stew. (In Port Sunlight it,s Cordon Bleu). Plenty of banter, good crack and a big win. The horses on the last race were auctioned. Silsden had three chances. The Prize £150. The tension mounted, a photo finish and the winner was Richard Feather (who had invested £30 on his nag.) Everyone a winner. Lairds won the game, they made lots of money for club funds, Richard Feather won £150 and everyone had a great night. Thanks you Lairds When Silsden AFC and Cammell Laird entered the North West Counties League neither club could have foreseen the camaraderie which would develop between the clubs. With both teams enjoying a successful start to the season it was clear that one of us if not both would be challenging for honours. Our first encounter was at a service station on the M1 in Durham in November 2004. We were both on our way to important “Vase” matches in the North-East. The banter started immediately. Our first encounter on the field was in March. The Lairds won 2-1 at Silsden in the League Cup semi-final and then 1-0 at home in the second leg. The Silsden side were made really welcome and a bond between the clubs was established. The League encounters were postponed until the end of the season. Silsden needed nine points from their final three games. Away at Lairds the Cobbydalers won two nil inflicting Laird’s only home defeat of the season. The Lairds were magnanimous in defeat but on their return to Cougar Park they were determined to settle the score. A drained Silsden side had to win but the League Champions, theLairds, had been wounded. They dominated the first half and took the lead. Silsden drew on all their resources equalised and netted a late winner. We were promoted together. The Lairds hammered us 5-1 at home in October. No escape this time. Whilst Silsden have consolidated the Lairds have gone from strength to strength. We willed them to reach the “Vase” final. We looked forward to a great day out. They didn’t reach the final but we had our great day out. (Congratulations to Nantwich from both Clubs. Well done) On the day of the Vase Final we were at the Lairds, this time THEY needed the victory. The one nil win didn’t really do them justice, they were well in control. We hope they win the League. Whatever happens we will play them next season. We’ve already organised a pre-season friendly. And who knows? We might meet them in the F.A. Cup Final. |
