Introduction

On the 28th of August, 2007, Runescape saw the release of the God Wars Dungeon. The dungeon is buried beneath the frozen wastes north of Trollheim, and packed with hordes of monsters in a multi way combat area, most of which are aggressive. At each corner of the roughly rectangular dungeon, there is a barrier requiring 70 in a specific skill to bypass, and sometimes an item as well. Behind the barrier is another pack of angry monsters, and behind them, a second barrier that will require you to defeat 40 members of that army to open.

The true intent of these dungeons lie behind the second barriers. A extremely high level monster lies behind the second barrier, as well as their three minions. All of these monsters are capable of dropping extremely valuable items. Unfortunately, they also take coordination, teamwork, and a good strategy to kill efficiently.

This guide assumes you have some basic knowledge of the God Wars Dungeon, and have visited at least once (if only to place the entrance rope.)

Some General Tips
Some of these were originally in other sections. I moved them all to one section because they apply throughout the guide, not to one particular boss.

Zamorak’s Fortress
Section 1: Words of Encouragement
This is the perfect place for people trying to learn how to GWD. K’ril Tsutsaroth is comparably easier than the other bosses, and most level 90+, outfitted properly, can actually defeat K’ril alone. However, there’s still many things to take note of before you make your attempt, so keep reading.

So let’s start with what makes this boss easy. K’ril Tsutsaroth is the highest level of all four bosses, but hopefully you’ll notice that after level 200 or so, monster levels aren’t the most precise measure of how dangerous a particular enemy really is. He is unique in that none of his attacks affect more than one person. Also, he is the only God Wars Dungeon boss that’s considered a slayer monster: a lesser demon (boy, I bet he hates that title.) That means, those of you slayers that possess a black mask can easily get an extra 15% attack and strength when fighting K’ril. Finally, although there’s no real solid evidence behind this, K’ril Tsutsaroth’s defense seems significantly lower than any other GWD Boss (Except Kree’Arra, it’s too hard to compare range and melee defense).

Well, with all the weaknesses K’ril has, there are still a couple dangers. First off, K’ril is also the only boss who poisons. That’s not a big deal, just don’t forget your super antipoisons. If you realize you forgot your anti, do not even consider trying to fight him until you get a friend to bring you one, or go back and modify your inventory. The poison deals 16 damage per hit. Also, occasionally, he will throw a little tantrum and deal up to 50 damage if you are using prayer. This isn’t a reason NOT to use prayer, but watch your hitpoints, and keep your hp and prayer high.

This part of the God Wars Dungeon requires 70 hitpoints.

K’ril can be done easily with 2-3 people. You can also solo K’ril if desired. Here are some good inventories to use:

Equipment for a One-man trip

Posted Image

Black Mask is recommended instead of Neitiznot if you have a Lesser Demon Slayer mission. See tips and tricks below.

Alternate Helms: Warrior Helm, Berserker Helm, Blessed D’hide Coif
Alternate Armor: Black D’hide top, Blessed D’hide top
Alternate Leggings: Black D’hide chaps, Blessed D’hide chaps, Dharok’s Platelegs, Verac’s Skirt
Alternate Ring: Ring of Wealth, Berserker Ring

There is only one item you should completely avoid: Ring of Life. Other than that, just pick something similar to the items listed above and you should be in good shape.

Super Attack + Super Strength Potions
These will help you kill K’ril a lot faster, and save you some food. Bring one of each if your team includes less than 5 people. If you plan on going with 5 or more people, bring at least 2 of each. Do not bring any more than 2: K’ril himself will oft drop these potions, 3 of each at a time.

Super Antipoison
An absolute must have item. If you have less than 4 people, bring one of these. If you have 4 or more people, bring 2 of these, or one Antidote(+). Do not forget this unless you have a really nice gravestone for people to read.

Super Restore Potion / Saradomin Brew / Prayer Potion

If you only have 1-2 people, bring 3 or 4 Super Restore Potions or Prayer potions each, and just forget the brew. If you have 3 or more people, bring Super Restore Potions and an equal amount of brew. If you have more people, bring more restore potions as your trip tends to last longer, amounting to more prayer being used.

Food

This is probably the one and only boss I’d say “It’s okay to use Monkfish” for. Manta Rays, Sharks, Tuna Potatoes, Karambwan, and Monkfish will all work well, just fill your inventory with them.

Teleport Tablet

A house tablet is pretty much a necessity. If you teleport to your own house and die, you don’t lose any items. Also, if you’re poisoned, you can leave the house to cure yourself. Finally, throw in the prayer altars and you have your winning combination.

Switch Items

A Zamorak item is a MUST. A Saradomin item is helpful, but not required. You can bring them as a switch item if you have a better item you’d like to use in its place against the boss. For example: In the above picture, I brought a Zamorak Bracers, and I’ll use that while earning killcount, but switch to Barrow Gloves while fighting the boss.

Once you get your inventory all sorted out, you’re ready to go!

Section 2: The Imp Hunt
As mentioned before, the dungeon is located north of Trollheim. Having completed Death Plateau, and started Troll Stronghold is a requirement. Eadgar’s Ruse will allow you to teleport to Trollheim, which will also be quite convenient.

The map below indicates the path to the dungeon. If you can not teleport to Trollheim, give your teleport tablet to a team mate using the same kind, and bring climbing boots in it’s place. Wear the boots to climb past Sherpa’s hut, and through the arena where Dad is. After passing Dad, follow the path on the right side of the map. Then drop the climbing boots. If you do choose to teleport, use the teleportation trick explained above under "General Tips."

A Long way from Home

Either way, remember to use the protection from range prayer while running past the thrower trolls. They do a lot of damage no matter your defense level or armor.

When you reach the boulder and crack, it will begin to snow. The snow will slowly drain your stats, and remove ALL your energy. Run as fast as you can towards the entrance, and use protection from melee to stop the wolves from hurting you. Upon entering, SWITCH ON PROTECTION FROM MAGIC. Unless you happen to have brought a Saradomin item, 3 Spiritual Mages, 2 Saradomin Priests, 3 Spiritual Warriors, and a Spiritual Ranger, all serving Saradomin will immediately attack you. The following map will indicate the best spot to raise your kill count:

Getting “KC”

Posted Image

Zamorak’s monsters come in all levels, including several very low level monsters, imps and ice fiends. Also, entering Zamorak’s Fortress will instantly drain all your prayer.

Kill Icefiends and Imps in the red section if you have both a Saradomin and a Zamorak item.

Killcount Spot #1

Posted Image

Kill any monster with the help of prayer in the blue section if you do not have a Saradomin item.

Killcount Spot #2

Kill the imps inside the fortress, in the purple section if you do not have a Saradomin item and you are out of prayer. Remember that you require 70 hitpoints remaining to cross the bridge, and that it will drain all your prayer.

Killcount Spot #3

Get a kill count of 40 from werewolves, bloodvelds, vampires, imps, ice fiends. Do not waste prayer or health fighting Spiritual Warriors, Rangers, Mages, or Goraks. Goraks do damage through prayer. Then proceed to the last door, and the next section. Your screen gets darker as you approach K’ril… don’t let it scare you off.

The Calm Before the Storm
Posted Image

Section 3: The Greatest Lesser Demon
Before entering, drink a dose of Saradomin brew if you brought one, and 2 doses of super restore potion. Then drink a dose each of your super attack and strength, and enter.

The strategy for this fight is fairly simple. Keep protection from melee on, keep your hitpoints above 70, and keep your prayer above 30. Drink Antipoison whenever you get the poison message, and kill K’ril Tsutsaroth. If K’ril is attacking your team mates, use whatever protection pray you want, keep your hitpoints up, and keep attacking K’ril. If you can use Piety or Chivalry, use it. If not, use the 15% attack prayer. The 15% strength prayer is optional.

Posted Image

When K’ril is defeated, pick up your loot and finish off the smaller demons, then prepare for a respawn. Good luck, demon slayer!

Section 4: Legends never die, but Demon Slayers certainly do.
Fine, maybe you slipped up a bit and wound up somewhere else with only 3 of your items. Well, don’t just stand there. Assuming your team mates had the opportunity to bless your grave, you have a decent chance at saving your own items.

Here’s some time saving tricks to get your kills quickly:
1) Don’t waste time with the teleport trick. Just use 2 laws and 2 fires, and get up there quickly. If you need to walk through the Troll Stronghold, bring a couple super energy potions.
2) Bring some prayer potions. Instead of camping around the entrance for kills, move across the ice bridge ASAP. There are ONLY Zamorak monsters there, and in abundance. This way, you only have to have a Zamorak item. The kill count should come smoothly.
3) Keep protect melee on when saving your items.

Do not forget to bring super antipoison and a teleport tablet. Follow these few safety tips and you should be A-Ok.

A Few Tips and Tricks
- Like I mentioned multiple times before: If you have a lesser demon task, bring a black mask. If you want a lesser demon task, I recommend getting your slayer missions from Vannaka.

- If you want to teach your friends how to GWD, this is a good place to start.

- This is the only boss with low enough defense that it would be worth bringing a Dragon Dagger, Mace, or Halberd.

- Stay away from this area if you’re in a bad mood. The darkness, and bad drops, usually won’t help.

- Of the three minions, one is considered a Lesser Demon, one a Greater Demon, and one a Black Demon. If you’re competing for drops and have any demon task, bring a black mask and switch it on. Balfrug Kreeyath is a black demon, Tstanon Karlak is a greater demon, and Zakl’n Gritch is a lesser demon. (If I messed these three up, please post to correct me.)

- If you see an item identical to an air battlestaff on the ground, do not leave it. It is a steam battlestaff.

Bandos’s Stronghold
Section 1: Preparing for Battle
First off, you want to make sure you and your team is outfitted properly. Any monster at this level takes more than just combat level to defeat; it takes skill, strategy, and preparation. A level 90 who knows exactly what to do, and how to react to every contingency is a far more useful team member than a level 126 who has never even visited the dungeon.

General Graardor has two attacks. The first is a simple, straightforward melee attack. He reaches his arm back, and slams it forward. This attack only hits his target, and inflicts up to 60 damage. ALWAYS use the level 43, protection from Melee prayer if you are General Graardor’s target.

While he does not change targets, his second attack also splashes on everyone in the entire room. He clasps his hands together over his hand, and slams the ground. This creates shockwaves striking everyone for up to 35 damage. This counts as a RANGE attack, even though it makes the sound effect, and splashes if it misses, like a magical one. Everyone who is NOT General Graardor’s main target should be using protection from range.

Sergeant Strongstack, Steelwill, and Grimspike (All around level 140) are General Graardor’s 3 minions. Strongstack uses melee attacks, Steelwill uses magical attacks, and Grimspike uses range attacks. Killing them as quick as possible is no good, as they respawn almost instantly when General Graardor remains alive.

While General Graardor is stubborn enough not to change targets unless he can’t reach his target and other people are striking him, the three minions will ALWAYS target whoever last hit Graardor. That means anyone attacking Graardor will also be struck by attacks from all three combat styles. The minions have a max hit under 30, so while it drains your supplies, it’s generally not too dangerous.

The ideal team build up for a trip includes 1 tank and 3-4 warriors.

Tank
Figure 1-1

Fig 1-1 shows a good tank setup. The purpose of a tank is to draw all of Graardor’s melee attacks towards himself, so that his team mates can protect range. The warriors will take less damage, so they can get by with using food instead of a Saradomin Brew. Saradomin Brews have a nasty effect of draining away your attack and strength, so allowing the warriors to get by with just sharks means they can use super attack and strength potions, allowing them to kill General Graardor much faster.

The equipment you should use:

Guthan’s / Torag’s / Verac’s Helm > Dharok’s Helm
Bandos Chest Plate > Guthan’s / Torag’s / Dharok’s Plate body > Verac’s Brassard
Bandos Tassets > Torag’s / Dharok’s Plate legs > Verac’s Plate skirt
Bandos Boots > Dragon Boots > Rune Boots > Any Boots
Best RFD Gloves > Black D’hide Vambraces
Fury Amulet > Gnome Amulet > Defense Amulet
Fire Cape / Skill Cape (t) > Skill Cape / Obsidian Cape > Cape of Legends
Archer Ring > Warrior Ring > Berserker Ring > Ring of Wealth > No Ring
Abyssal Whip > Dragon Scimitar > Any 1-handed weapon
Dragon fire Shield > Crystal Shield FULL > Granite Shield

If you do not have the minimum items, you should not consider taking the job of tanking. DO NOT USE A RING OF LIFE. It is better to go with no ring, than to use a ring of life, as Graardor attacks slowly. Using a ring of life to escape will cause Graardor to randomly attack one of your team mates, usually with melee while they’re using protection from range. Rings of Life are DEADLY in this scenario.

You want a minimum Range Defense Bonus of +350. Also, a prayer bonus of at least +10 is recommended. Note that Verac’s armor has lower range defense but gives more prayer.

You should carry in your pack:

- 7-9 Super Restore Potions (4 dosed)
- Hammer
- Teleportation Tablet
- Switch Items (Zamorak or Bandos, explained below)
- Fill the rest of your inventory with Saradomin Brew (4 dosed)

Saradomin brews heal a portion of your hitpoints, while draining your attack and strength. At level 99 HP, you heal 16 hitpoints per dose, or 64 hitpoints per inventory spaced used. 1 dose of super restore potion removes the negative impact of 3 doses of Saradomin brew, and also restores as much prayer as a prayer restore potion.

You should carry between 7 to 9 Super Restore potions. The exact amount depends on your stats and team. If you are higher prayer, you will not need as many. However, with 4 warriors, your trip will last longer, and you should bring more.

For Bandos, the first barrier requires 70 strength and a hammer to open. The hammer is shown in the inventory as well. As far as teleportation goes, a house teleportation tablet is the best. It teleports you to absolute safety: If a random event ambushes you, or you magically poison yourself, or accidentally drop the nitroglycerin you weren’t supposed to bring, you don’t lose any items. Also, you can build a prayer altar nearby. If you do not have a house, or do not want to teleport there, any teleportation tablet will do.

Finally, the Zamorak and Bandos items serves to ward off the monsters in the dungeon. Neither is strictly necessary, but I highly recommend bringing both, or at least a Bandos item. You can find a list of good Bandos and Zamorak items to bring at the bottom of this section, and more information on this later in the guide.

Required:
80+ Defense
70+ Strength
43+ Prayer
+320 Range Defense

Recommended:
90+ Defense
90+ Hitpoints
70+ Prayer and Access to Piety (Level-70)
+350 Range Defense, +10 Prayer

Figures 1-2, 1-3, and 1-4 all show good warrior set ups.

The set up shown in figure 1-2 is best for someone with at least 85 attack.
The set up shown in figure 1-3 is best for someone with at least 95 attack.
Use the set up shown in figure 1-4 if you can not afford the other two set ups, or lack the attack level to use them effectively.

Here are the items that stay constant:
Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots > Rune Boots
Warrior Ring > Berserker Ring > Ring of Wealth > Seers Ring > No Ring
Best RFD Gloves > Black D’hide Vambraces
Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory
Fire Cape > Skill Cape(t) > Skill Cape/Obsidian Cape > Cape of Legends

If you are not using Veracs:
Warrior Helm / Neitiznot helm > Berserker Helm
Karil’s Leather top > Blessed D’hide Body > Black D’hide Body
Verac’s Plateskirt > Torag’s Legs / Dharok’s Legs
Armadyl Godsword, Bandos Godsword, Zamorak Godsword, or Abyssal Whip

Since General Graardor should be attacking your tank, you are exempt from his deadly melee attacks and free to use range prayer. However, you will still take damage with the minions. If possible, you will want magic defense against Sergeant Steelwill. Melee defense against Strongstack is less important, as he has to walk around to target different people, and therefore attacks less often.

Graardor also has incredibly high defense. Strength is NOT the best answer to this. You want to increase your attack bonus as much as possible. Again, don’t use a ring of life (explained in the tank section).

You should carry in your pack:

- 1-2 Super Attack Potions (4-dosed)
- 1-2 Super Strength Potions (4-dosed)
- 3-4 Saradomin Brews (4-dosed)
- 6-7 Super Restore Potions (4-dosed)
- Hammer
- Teleportation Tablet
- Switch Items
- Fill whatever leftover space you have with Manta Rays, Tuna Potatoes, or Shark

The amount of potions varies with the amount of team members you have. With 4 warriors, bring more super attack and strength and restore, and less brew. With only 3, bring fewer super attack and strength and restore, and more brew. Also, bring more restores if your prayer level is lower.

Required:
75+ Attack
70+ Strength
70+ Prayer and Access to Piety (Level-70)

Recommended:
90+ Attack
90+ Defense
90+ Hitpoints

Switch Items
The regions where you will increase your kill count are frequented by Zamorak and Bandos monsters.

While not strictly required, both a Zamorak and Bandos Item are highly recommended. Here is a list of conveniently obtained items to choose from:

Zamorak
Unholy Book, Zamorak Stole, Unholy Symbol, Zamorak Kite shield, Rune Kite shield painted with a Zamorak Family Crest, Zamorak Cloak, Zamorak Cape

Bandos
Ancient Mace (From Another Slice of H.A.M.), Bandos Chest plate, Bandos Tassets, Bandos Boots

Section 2: The Journey and the Killcount
Head over to the God Wars Dungeon. For instructions on this, check Section 2 of Zamorak's Fortrees, you follow the same route to reach the main dungeon.
Once you enter the dungeon, follow the red path indicated in Figure 2-2 below north as fast as possible.

If you do not have a Zamorak item, proceed to the spot marked with a blue square, following the blue path to reach the hobgoblins. If you DO have a Zamorak item, obtain your kill count in either of the red safespots.

However, if you do not have a Bandos item, avoid the Orks on the western side of the south safespot.

Figures 2-3, 2-4, and 2-5 below show the monsters you should kill for your kill count:

Section 3: The Final Stretch
After you have 40 kill count, it’s time to enter General Graardor’s Arena. There are two spots, indicated in Figure 2-2 (Above, in section 2) by a Red and Blue dot to stand at. The spot inside Bandos’s Stronghold should only be used if you have a Bandos item. If you do not, remain at the spot indicated by the blue dot.

If you are using the spot inside the Stronghold, BE CAREFUL YOU DO NOT ENTER THE DOOR UNTIL YOUR TEAM IS READY. This can lead to disastrous results. If you have a Zamorak item as well as your Bandos item, wait in front of the door. Otherwise, wait north of the pile of clutter, so that the Bloodveld can not reach you.

You can change a world to find an empty one without losing your kill count. However, teleporting, walking out, or dying will reset your kill count. There are no random events in this entire area.

Once the entire team is ready and the arena is clear, give a signal to the people waiting at the blue safespot. They should then run inside. During the first stretch, they should pray melee as shown in Figure 3-1. During the second stretch, between the first and second barrier, they should use protection from mage, shown in Figure 3-2.

Once everyone reaches the door, the tank should then enter the arena with protection from melee active. The rest should enter AFTER, with protection from range active. Then the fight begins.

Section 4: The Final Battle
Wow. A lot of work to reach this point. If you have managed to follow the guide up to now, and everyone is still in one piece, you are to be congratulated. However, you’re still nowhere near finished. Now you finally get to fight General Graardor.

As shown in figure 4-1, Graardor will face one person, hopefully the tank. The tank will use protection from melee, and the warriors will use protection from range. If the tank fails to catch Graardor, DON’T PANIC. Take a look at the cover of your copy of the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, take a deep breath, and put on protection from Melee.

After Graardor is killed, kill all three of the minions in this order:

Sergeant Steelwill, Mage, hurls greenish yellowish goo at people, has a funny purple forked mustache.

Sergeant Strongstack, Fighter, Bald, swings his flail.

Sergeant Grimspike, Ranger, Has brown hair, hurls axes.

Although this order is often altered slightly, or not everyone listens to instructions (See figure 4-2), Steelwill should ALWAYS be killed first. It is alright if the second two are killed in a different order.

Figure 4-2

Also, since whoever struck the last blow to Graardor will be the target of all three minions, he or she should use Protection from Magic if he is the tank, or wearing Veracs, or Protection from Range. Once Steelwill dies, he should switch to Protection from Range if he is the tank or wearing Verac’s. Figures 4-6 and 4-7.

Figure 4-6

Figure 4-7

After the first round, you will have a few seconds to prepare for all of the enemies to respawn. If you gave your teleportation tablet to another person so you could bring climbing boots, now is a good time to retrieve your tablet from them. You can also drop your hammer now, you will not need it any more this trip. Later in the trip, this is also the perfect time to trade supplies to people in need. Most of the Saradomin Brews brought by the warriors are actually meant for the tank.

After the trades are completed, each job will have a specific position. The tank should stand right where General Graardor spawns, making it easy for him to “catch” Graardor before Graardor can attack anyone. Look at the terrain to find this spot. As shown in figures 4-3 and 4-4, certain tiles have a, quote, “Dark Bubble Design” (Madmanpur3). The little corner on the northeast is the perfect spot to stand. If you prefer, you can also stand one spot south of it.

Figure 4-3

Figure 4-4

The warriors should stand in the northwest corner of the room, as shown in the figures above. This will give the tank the most time to “catch” Graardor when they respawn. Also, it will make it easy to recognize whether Graardor is actually targeting the tank initially. Graardor’s target is RANDOM. Your position in the room does not affect your odds of being selected as a target.

Once Graardor spawns, BEFORE he has attacked anyone, he will change targets to the first person who attacks him. As shown in Figure 4-5, the tank should attack him instantly. If he targets you, you will dance a bit but still be the first to strike him. Because of this, it is safe to click attack BEFORE you hit protection from melee, although you should always make sure protection from melee is on before he attacks you back.

Figure 4-5

The warriors should remain in the corner until they are sure Graardor is focused on the tank. Again, if the tank messes up, don’t panic! Turn protection from melee on and keep your hitpoints up when he uses his range attack, and hope Graardor dies quickly.

Note that there is a prayer altar in this room. However, it is under different restrictions from other altars. Note that you can not use this altar while you are under attack. Also, you can not use it more than once every ten minutes.

The Prayer Altar

Section 5: Death, Escape, and Treasure
As you can hopefully tell by now, this place isn’t exactly as safe as Farmer Fred’s Chicken pen. It is likely that you will die once or twice during your GWD career.

However, if you’re careful, you will be able to control the damage. If you see any friends die, quickly put on protection from melee if he was the tank or Graardor’s target. After you are sure that Graardor aims to kill somebody else, make sure you have over 70 prayer, and bless his grave. That will give him a full hour to obtain his 40 kill count and reenter to retrieve his stuff.

If you are the one that died, again, don’t panic. Get some gear for quick killing out, and some extra food, and go kill 40 goblins and hobgoblins in the dungeon as fast as you can. You should have plenty of time to reenter the dungeon to obtain your stuff.

HOWEVER:
- Do not log out if you die. Your gravestone and items will disappear.
- Do not forget your hammer!
- Do not squander time deciding what piece of armor is best, you only have 60 minutes.

If you are careful you should not lose too many items when you die.

An easy way to avoid dying is to teleport out of the lair. However, before doing so, make sure you’re teammates are prepared. Especially if you’re the tank, Graardor may be unpredictable after you teleport, and be a threat to the rest of your team. If you’re out of healing, let your team know.

Also, if you are not the tank and you’re down to 30 hp, just stop attacking Graardor and start on the minions. Since they only target whoever attacks Graardor, you are safe. Keep protect range on, and lower the hitpoints on all the minions. Remember, killing them is no good if Graardor is still alive.

This is perhaps the most recent issue with the God Wars Dungeon: How do you split drops?

Right now, the easiest method is to simply sell the goods, and share. Decide what drops you intend to share BEFORE going, so there’s no hard feelings after, and it’s very clear what you’re splitting.

Make it specific: not “Everything” or “Good stuff only” or “Rare items.” Refer to Tip.It’s bestiary to get a full list of drops and decide what specific item will be sold and split.

A Few Extra Tips and Tricks
There's a few tricks you can use once you get the basics down.

- The minions frequently drop steel darts. A tank can also use these to grab Graardor from a distance. (Thanks to msiGC)

- Vulnerability can be used to grab Graardor if you believe that the plain attack method is too unreliable. Although some players can perfectly grab Graardor every time, if it's your turn to tank and you don't feel up to the task, bring some mud runes + soul runes.

- For some extra healing, you can bring a few bones to peaches tablets. Also, if you know the spell and you're a tank using vulnerability, pick up a few of the nature rune drops and you can cast bones to peaches.

- Another way to get extra healing is to use Guthans. Simply switch your helm, body, and legs to Guthans, and bring a spear. After Graardor dies, heal on the minions. This is best for the tank.

- Occasionally you could bring an extra team member who uses lunar magic to heal others. With this strategy, besides right when the monsters spawn, he should not get hit at all. He can heal himself with Guthans AND Bones to Peaches, and use heal other on the tank or other team members.

Armadyl’s Eyrie
Section 1: Stringing the Bow
Armadyl’s Eyrie, while not the most dangerous area, is probably the most unique. With the exception of one of the three minions, Flight Kilisa, and the boss, Kree’Arra, none of the monsters use melee attacks. Also, you are unable to attack any of them with melee attacks.

Also, it is worth noting that while Kree’Arra (Level-580) is the lowest level of all the God Wars Dungeon bosses, he is still very, very powerful, having a higher max hit than any of the other bosses.

In order to access Armadyl’s Eyrie, you must have at least 70 range. It can also take a long time for some people to build kill count here. If you are one of these people, be careful when selecting your equipment: you may not be able to return in time to collect your items. Also, you will need a mithril grapple to enter Armadyl’s Eyrie. If you plan on visiting often, I recommend you make a dozen grapples beforehand. You will likely drop yours during the trip.

Before attempting to fight Kree'Arra, I recommend you obtain the following stats:

85+ Range
80+ Magic
80+ Defense
70+ Prayer
90+ Hitpoints

Example Equipment and Inventory

Armadyl can be done by any team with at least 2 people. The inventory shown above is meant for 3. Since there’s no “tanks” and everyone takes a share of the lumps, start with this inventory and modify as you see fit in later trips.

Head: Armadyl Helm, Blessed D’hide Coif, Verac's Full Helm
Torso: Armadyl Chestplate, Karil’s Leathertop, Blessed D’hide Body
Legs: Armadyl Plateskirt, Karil’s Leatherskirt, Blessed D’hide Chaps
Back: Ava’s Accumulator
Hands: Barrow Gloves, Blessed D’hide Vambraces, Black D’hide Vambraces
Finger: Ring of Wealth, Archer’s Ring, Ring of life
Neck: Amulet of Fury, Armadyl Pendant
R. Hand: Rune C’bow
L. Hand: Unholy Book, Holy Book, Dragonfire Shield
Quiver: Mithril Grapple
Feet: Snakeskin Boots, Ranger Boots, Infinity Boots, Dragon Boots

Alternatively, you can use full Void with a Void range helm.

Choose your equipment carefully. You want to have at least 1 Saradomin item and 1 Armadyl item. A zamorak item will also make more kill count spots available. Also, if you are using any extremely valuable items like Armadyl Chestplate, check your item protection screen to make sure you’re keeping it. Like I mentioned above, it is possible you’re kill count is slow enough that you may not retrieve your items in time.

As always, you should carry a teleport tablet. You should also bring a stack of either Diamond or Ruby Bolts (e). They are the best for fighting Kree’Arra with. Make sure only ONE team member is using ruby. More on this below. In addition to these bolts, you should also bring Mithril or better bolts for kill count, or another 1 handed, easy to obtain range weapon. Rune throwing knives, Rune darts, and Dragon darts work well. Toktz-xil-ul is very good for this but also very expensive. You should bring at least 150 bolts for the boss, and 100 killcount ammunition.

If you choose to use two types of bolts, you may use a bolt pouch to save space. It is inconvenient, but the extra space might be worth it later. However, since you can not store the grapple in the bolt pouch, you will have to earn your kill count on the other side of the chasm once you cross it and drop your grapple.

Finally, this is the ONLY boss you should consider using a ring of life against. Kree’Arra attacks everyone at once most of the time, so you escaping early does not heavily impact your team, unless there were only 2 people left. If you are one of the last two people, make sure your partner knows that you’re wearing a ring of life, and is ready to teleport.

Once you’re geared up, it’s off to the dungeon again!

Section 2: Shoot Down those Birds!
Head to the God Wars Dungeon like you normally do. With your outfit, only the Bandos monsters should be attacking you. There’s several good spots for earning your killcount. Please refer to the map below. The chasm is marked by a red dot, and the killcount locations outlined in blue. The green square indicates the door behind which Kree’Arra awaits you.

There’s 3 ways to efficiently build kill count, and you can mix and match the three to suit your desires.

1) Aviansie – These are the most common, and come in many levels. The weakest one is actually Level-71. While it has lower level counterparts, the Aviansie (Level-71) has the least hitpoints.

All Aviansie hit fairly high so fight them with protection from range. The inventory shown above allows 1 super restore pot for fighting these. They drop Adamant Bars, in 4s, noted. You can expect to obtain between 20 and 40 while getting your kill count, if you get it entirely on Aviansie. Aviansie can be killed both inside and outside the Eyrie. However, if you grapple in, DO NOT LEAVE. Your grapple can break occasionally when used. It’s fine if it breaks when you enter, but if you go back out and it breaks, then you will be stuck outside. This has happened to me before.

2) Spiritual Mages – The famous source of Dragon Boots. These require 83 slayer, and you should use protect magic while fighting them. They have more hitpoints and defense, so fight these if your prayer level is really high. Even still, you may run out of prayer. If that happens, keep reading.

Spiritual Mages

3) Spiritual Warriors – I personally love these. They’re actually rangers, even though the name implies they use melee. Their drops are mediocre, going up to Rune Halberd, but their max hit is 1. That’s right, 1. They also almost never hit you. They require 68 slayer. If you have 68 slayer, and run out of prayer while fighting mages and Aviansie, kill Warriors for the last few kills.

GF Spiritual Warriors, GF

Get your 40 kills, and wait near the geyser, in front of the boss door. When your entire team is ready, proceed to section 3.

Section 3: The Biggest Bird of Runescape
Kree’Arra has two attacks, although one of them is very rarely used. His first attack, a simple melee attack, can hit fairly high (50+). However, he almost never uses this if you have at least two people. To avoid this attack, just stay out of his melee range.

His second attack is far deadlier. He sprays whirlwinds out, 1 to every target. The gray whirlwind is a ranged attack, hitting up to a whopping 69. NEVER turn off protection from range is Kree’Arra is alive. The blue whirlwinds are magical attacks, and while causing a good amount of damage throughout the fight, do not even do up to 30 damage per hit. You can survive these fairly easily, just keep hitpoints high. His whirlwinds also have a nasty effect of sending you all over the room. Remember to stay spread out, and out of Kree’Arra’s melee range.

Kree’Arra, like all the other GWD Bosses, has three bodyguards. However, the AI of these bodyguards is different from that of the other bodyguards. For once: They’re less responsive to you attacking Kree’Arra. For any other boss, once you strike the boss, the minions turn to you, therefore allowing the damage they inflict to be spread fairly evenly. That doesn’t work here. Kree’s minions often stay for 2-3 attacks after you stop attacking Kree, before heading towards another target. Keep your hitpoints above 60 at all times.

Again, like any other boss, kill Kree’Arra, then his minions. Note that the minions DO attack whoever is attacking them, so if each of you attack a different minion, you can pray against that minion and avoid extra damage. The following images illustrate some of the finer points:

Spread Out!

Killing the Bodyguards

Being Prepared

Section 4: Casualties of War
Death is certainly a possibility in Armadyl’s Eyrie. But like any other boss, don’t panic if you wind up in Camelot/Falador/Lumbridge with only 3 of your items. Hopefully, your team mates can bless your grave, giving you a full hour to retrieve your items. An hour isn’t a long time, so act quickly:

Step 1: Quickly get some prayer potions (3-4), a couple ranging potions (1-3), some manta rays, sharks, or tuna potatoes (15-20), a rune crossbow and Mithril grapple for reentry, and either some VERY high level bolts for fast kills, or something else to kill Aviansie quickly. Toktz-Xil-Ul are very effective for this. Also remember a Zamorak item, and another Armadyl item if you have one. Saradomin is helpful but don’t waste time buying one before you go.

Step 2: Race back there and get your 40 kill count. Use your range potions, 15% range prayer, and everything else you’ve got. You don’t have much time.

Step 3a: If your team is still inside, turn on protect range and save your stuff. Then teleport and count yourself lucky.

Step 3b: Oops. Your team had to teleport 10 minutes ago. Well, it’s still possible, just more difficult. Kree’Arra has a nasty habit of trying to use his melee attack if only one enemy is in the room. However, it is nowhere near as deadly as his range attack, so keep using protection from range.

Enter the room, and run AWAY from your items. This will lead Kree’Arra in that direction. Keep your hitpoints and prayer up the whole time. Then race back to the pile, where you can retrieve the most valuable items. If there’s more valuable items in the pile that you HAVE to save, then again, lead Kree away and back. Repeat until you have your items and get out. Do not do what Muddybob did and go back for 600 mind runes.

A Few Extra Tips and Tricks
- The setup shown above is for attack bonuses. Decide beforehand whether you, as a team, should focus on range attack, magic defense, or melee defense, and choose your items respectively. However, don’t neglect to check the Items-Kept-on-Death interface! Make sure you will not lose your super valuable items in the case of lag or a crashing computer/router/internet connection.

- As mentioned before, you can use a bolt pouch instead of bringing so many types of ammo.

- When using ruby bolts, do not retrieve them. After your team mates have space, they can each take a few. That will give them a chance at hitting a 51 early on in the fight. In exchange, ask them for a few diamond bolts when you have room later, so you don’t waste hp when Kree’Arra is almost dead.

- Bones to peaches works here as well, but you have to be careful in using it. Only try it if you are really experienced with fighting Kree’Arra.

- Dragon and Onyx bolts do work if you have the money to afford them.

- You can bring a Dark Bow and Dragon Arrows if desired. These work best with a large team (5 or more). They work very well with void.

- If you plan on doing several trips, there is a crate with mithril grapples inside. You can make a trip to collect several of these if desired. ~Artemis1330

Saradomin’s Encampment
Section 1: Overview
This is the most challenging area of the God Wars Dungeon. Before even considering visiting this section, I’d recommend you read the above sections, and attempt a few other bosses in the God Wars Dungeon.

Commander Zilyana (Lvel-596) attacks with both melee and magic. Similar to General Graardor, her secondary attack, a lightning bolt resembling the Saradomin Sword’s special attack strikes everyone in the room. However, it is devastatingly more accurate, and you can not possibly muster enough magic defense to halt it, so everyone will be using protection from magic. Commander Zilyana’s melee attack is the most powerful of any GWD boss’s attacks. While it’s max hit is 31, versus every other boss being able to hit over 40 damage with their melee attacks, it is devastatingly accurate. Whilst with +350 more defense and 99 defense combined, Graardor’s melee attack usually misses at least half the time, Commander Zilyana will still usually hit you 3 out of 4 times. Also, Zilyana is ridiculously fast. Her attack rate is approximately equivalent to that of darts. Finally, due to the fancy graphics for her two attacks, you often can not see where she is really standing (more on this later.)

Before making your actual attempt, it is recommended you visit the God Wars Dungeon wearing a Saradomin item, and bringing 2 ropes. Head southeast, where you will find a place to attach the rope. Climb down the rope, run south, and you will find another spot for a rope. Attach the second one and teleport. This way, for your trip later, you will not need to waste 2 inventory spaces. You will need 70 agility to do this. Agility potions, Spicy Stew, and Summer Pie DO NOT WORK.

Here is a sample inventory and setup to fight Zilyana.

Sample Inventory

There are many, many good arrangements for fighting Commander Zilyana. When designing your own, keep these points in mind:
- You want a slower weapon. If you do not have a Godsword, use full Veracs.
- Ranging does work, but I highly recommend using diamond bolts
- You want to maximize your attack bonus, your slash defense bonus, and your prayer bonus.
- By now you should have an idea of the gear expected. If you can’t use, say, barrow gloves or a torags plate, then you should really go to another boss, or earn some more money and level up more before attempting this
- This REQUIRES a Saradomin and Zamorak item. If you are ranging, blessed Dragonhide works well.
Like any other boss, procure your 40 kills in a timely and efficient fashion, and proceed to the next portion of the guide.

Section 3: The Final Battle
Here it is again. This is your last chance to turn back, if you get cold feet, a team mate leaves, etc. If you don’t back out, it’s time for the plunge. Everyone turn on protect magic, activate your buffs (Piety, super sets or range potion), and enter.

As I mentioned earlier in the guide, you simply can not stand toe to toe with Commander Zilyana. Even with maximum melee defense and defense level, her melee attacks will shred you. If you go with maximum magical defense and magic and defense levels with protection from melee, her lighting bolts will incinerate you. They still hit a good 80% of the time through all that defense.

Understanding that, it’s time for some strategy. The idea is to keep a good distance between yourself and Commander Zilyana if you are her target. The way the AI works, if you run from her, and Zilyana can not attack you for about 5 seconds (because she can’t catch up) she will turn around and attack the next person to hit her.

When she is targeting someone else, you have roughly 6-8 seconds to do damage, more if your team mate messes up and gets attacked. However, be ready at any second to run if she turns towards you. If you’re even half a second too slow, she can carve 50-70 hitpoints off of you before you start moving.

When Your Ally is the Target…

And when it’s your turn…

This boss takes a lot of attention, can be a bit stressful, and is very, very dangerous. Of all the GWD Bosses, she is the only one who has ever killed me, and she has done so twice. Do not underestimate her, and do not, on any account, throw caution to the winds and try to stand still for a few blows to finish her.

Remember I mentioned graphic lag earlier? Well, I’ll explain how it works really quick. Basically, whenever an action is taken, the game responds by displaying a certain graphic: For example, enchant jewelry. When the actual spell is finished, the graphic may still be in effect. That’s why if you click somewhere while casting the spell, your character will run really fast after. If you cast high level alchemy, you will notice your character continues walking while casting it. That’s because a graphic has been added for the spell while moving.

Zilyana’s melee attacks have a movement graphic. Her magic attacks do not. That means, every time she uses her magic attack, while she doesn’t actually stop moving, she appears to do so. The result of this is that you often can’t tell where she really is just by looking at her. If this is the case, look at the people attacking her:

Graphic Lag

It can get a LOT worst than that, and occasionally, it self corrects by teleporting Zilyana. Don’t be caught by surprise.

It is common to run out of energy halfway through the fight in later rounds. That’s what purple sweets are for, the heal 10% energy, a couple hitpoints, and only take up one space. VERY effective. In addition, Zilyana’s minions also drops summer pies which heal 22 hitpoints as well as restoring some energy.

If all goes well, after a couple minutes, you should be able to bring Zilyana down. Once this happens, like with any other boss, all the minions will target whoever dealt the last hit. However, there is a trick here to assist with that situation. Running to the southern wall will cause Bree the Centaur (Range) to stop attacking you. Running to the north wall will cause Starlight the Unicorn (Melee) to stop attacking you. Growler the Lion (Mage) will attack you no matter what. After shaking off Bree or Starlight, proceed to kill the other one since he is still doing damage to you (You should still be using protection from magic). After that, help your teammates kill the one you shook off, then finish off Growler.

Go Away Bree!

After all is said and done, stand along the south wall to await Zilyana’s return.

Loading, Please Wait

Congratulations. You have defeated arguably the hardest and most dangerous boss in Runescape.

Of course, it might not go that well.
Like I said before, this is DANGEROUS. Go in only if you accept the fact you will probably die once or twice fighting her in your career. If you do die, hopefully, your team will be able to bless your grave. If this is the case:

Step 1: Quickly withdraw a quick, powerful weapon for fighting monsters. Abyssal whip is the best of the best for this.

Step 2: Bring plenty of super attack, super strength, and prayer potions. You will need to get your 40 kills quickly, and you will not have time to wait for a Spiritual mage to decide to kill a werewolf; your items are at stake!

Step 3: Get brews so you can actually get your items without dying. Also, if your team teleported out after, hopefully one of them will be able to come with you.

Step 4: Kill the monsters. If you have a friend with you, leave them after you remove 2/3 of a monsters hp and let your friend finish it.

If you are helping a friend save his stuff, be careful not to steal his kills!

Step 5: Go in, and grab your items. Keep protect magic on, and use your brews liberally. If Zilyana catches up, run to a corner, then run straight north or south to create a gap so you have more time to retrieve your items.

Step 6: Teleport out. USE A TABLET. Saradomin Brews will drain your magic level.

A Few Extra Tips and Tricks
- Don’t bother with special weapons. If your using a god sword, fine. But a DDS or Dragon Halberd is a waste of space.

- Peaches and Guthan’s do not work very well here. Zilyana simply does too much damage, too quickly and it’s unsafe to rely on inconsistent or low healing items.

- If you can’t afford sweets, look at the other various guides on the Tip.It forums for clue guides. Clues give a good amount of sweets, and you usually don’t use very many.

- If Jagex does not make allowances for supply sharing, remember to bring 20k-25k in cash so you can trade the monkfish and summer pie drops. Also, Zilyana herself drops 3 Saradomin Brews (3) + 3 Super Restore Potion (4). The perfect monster hunting combination. She also drops prayer potions.

- If your team is well experienced and you think you can afford it, exchange a brew for a combat potion. It will increase the speed you kill her after you use up your super attacks and strengths.

- Remember that Black Dragonhide has better melee defense than Karil’s. Use Blessed D’hide or Armadyl, not Karil’s.

- Keep your hitpoints above 60. Always. Zilyana will demolish you in mere seconds if you don’t. Keep energy above 40%, and keep prayer at 40+ points. Follow these three rules and you should be able to stay among the living.

- Remember that you can only leave 3k worth of drops on the ground that your team mates can see, and that super restore + prayer potions are both worth more. Pick them up and trade them.

- Use a slow spawning world for your first few trips.

- You can bring someone specifically to use guthans and bones to peaches, combined with heal other and energy transfer. If you do this, make sure he or she stays on the south wall until Zilyana has chosen a target. As long as he or she uses protection from magic and never attacks Zilyana, they're safe.

The Ultimate God Wars Dungeon Guide

Skillwise, I recommend:

For Warriors
90+ Attack
80+ Strength
90+ Defense
90+ Hitpoints
70+ Prayer

For Rangers
90+ Range
90+ Defense
90+ Hitpoints
70+ Prayer

Your inventory should always include either 2 super attacks and strengths or 3 ranging potions. Also, purple sweets come in very handy. Buy them off the grand exchange if you can’t get enough from clue scrolls. You want 5-6 Super Restore Potions depending on your prayer level, and at least 8 Saradomin Brew. The rest of your inventory should be food.

Good Saradomin Items
Saradomin Stole, Saradomin Blessed D’Hide, Saradomin Cloak, Saradomin Cape, Holy Symbol, Saradomin God sword if you are a Warrior.

Good Zamorak Items
Zamorak Stole, Zamorak Blessed D’hide, Zamorak Cloak, Zamorak Cape, Unholy Symbol, Unholy Book for Rangers

Section 2: The Killcount… Again
Hopefully you know the routine by now. The first barrier for this boss requires 70 agility + 2 ropes. However, the ropes only need to be brought once. Afterwards you will no longer need items. The second barrier will require you to kill 40 Saradomin soldiers. Unlike Bandos and Zamorak, there are no weak Saradomin minions for you to kill. The map below shows the three best spots to kill the minions. Attack them ONLY when they are attacking a Zamorak minion. Spiritual Mages are particularly good as they drop dragon boots, and only do 1 damage max to the Zamorak monsters. If you do not have 83 slayer, kill Priests and Warriors. Do not, on any account, try to kill a Spiritual Ranger. They do a ridiculous amount of damage, meaning they will likely kill it’s Zamorak enemy, before making you waste several pieces of food.
