Issues With Elmentclisnt.exe

Greetings!

After exhaustive testing and checking of files we have found no trace of trojans, viruses or any codes or transmissions of malicious intent. We have checked the MDF checksums of the files in the installers as well as on the servers and they are complete matches.

We can safely say that there is absolutely NO trojan or virus in elementclient.exe

Because this issue with viruses occurred only AFTER Anti-virus databases were updated on 25th Jan, we are certain that this is merely an incidence of a 'False Positive'. Which is to say, that the Anti-Virus software is WRONG.

THERE IS NO TROJAN/VIRUS.

For the meaning of 'False Positive':
( Taken from http://forum.perfectworld.com.my/viewtopic.php?t=9712 )

Quote:
False Positive Definintion

False positive
Synonyms: False alarm

A false positive is another way of saying ‘mistake’. As applied to the field of anti-virus programs, a false positive occurs when the program mistakenly flags an innocent file as being infected. This may seem harmless enough, but false positives can be a real nuisance.

* You waste productivity due to user down-time.
* You may take e-mail offline, as a security precaution, thus causing a backlog and more lost productivity
* You waste even more time and resources in futile attempts to disinfect ‘infected’ files. And if you load a backup, to replace ‘infected files, the backup appears to be infected too.

In short, false positives can be costly nuisances.

The term is not confined just to the anti-virus world. It also applies, for example, to anti-spam protection, where it refers to the misidentification of a legitimate e-mail message as spam. This too could be very costly, since the undelivered e-mail may be a business critical message.

Players may not be able to play Perfect World because your anti-virus software may have quarantined, deleted or blocked the game client from running or transmitting data. As such, you will need to disable your Anti-virus temporarily in order to play.

A user posted at http://forum.perfectworld.com.my/viewtopic.php?t=9707 a possible method to do so.

Because there are a huge variety of anti-virus software out there and the methods for each may differ, you may need to refer to the userguide that came with your anti-virus to find out how to allow the game to function normally.

Users who are uncomfortable with the idea of disabling your anti-virus in order to play the game are encouraged to report this 'False Positive' incident to your respective Anti-Virus vendors. Your Anti-Virus software provider should then either patch their databases to allow Perfect World to run again or inform you of ways to allow the game to run.

its a false alarm i have ran the file and scanned my entire pc. no vires payload has ran no odd prosses running in the backround. none of the files it said it makes can be found. nore the reg keys.

false alarm buy are anti vires not the first time and probably not the last. for avg users not able to run the game turn off the resident shield it just turn off its launch checker not the entire anti vires and you can turn it back on when your done playing.

trust me i have ran a full system check on my pc after this warning and running it. and fully launching the game then checking my system threw and threw again. the exe is not infected.

small update the resident shield can be re enabled wile the game is running if your worryed bought leaving your soft where in the off state.

for those that have lost the exe file run the games launcher and hit verify it will scan the pw dir and see the games exe is missing and download it for you. you do not need to download the 2 gig file and reinstall to fix it. you knoe if the file has been deleted if the game will not start. and you have turned off the resident shild.

pic as asked. also a second pic showing avg thinking its infected when it indeed is not showing all my running task and no vires payload running.

this was done on a xp machine running avg 7.5 on admin account not a limited user one. vista probably will need full admin rights as well.
also some anti vires softwhere has a exclude option that would also work. unfortunately avg does not.
