I've recently visited St Gallen, Switzerland, where I stumbled across a phantastic record shop called "Yesterday's Records". The owner proudly presented me his original Beatles albums, all in collectable condition. 3x stereo Revolver and one stereo White Album. I bought them all for 120 Euros. One comes in an E.J. Day cover and has Dr. Robert on the label. One comes in that scarcer cover as well but has Doctor Robert on the label. Both come in "Add these ..."- illustrated album inners (Pink Floyd's "Piper" and "Pepper" among others). The third one comes in a Garrod-cover, has Dr. Robert on the label and comes with "Add these ..."- illustrated album inners, but this time advertising for Motown artists, like Marvin Gaye and The Supremes. Well, until now I thought that the earliest pressings come with the Dr.Robert-label and have plain white inners. But what I learnt from this visit to Switzerland is that these early labels were still in use much later (cf. illustrated inners) and that they come in covers from both manufacturers. |
