The version WITHOUT "Minos Matsas and Son" in Greek at the bottom corresponds to the similar cover slick on the gatefold ("champagne glass") cover. Therefore it is first. The Greek credit was added later. |

Agreed, Frank. Also, the one without the Greek print at the bottom uses unlaminated glossy stock, which was characteristic of the Greek sleeves up to around 1968, while the one with the Greek print at the bottom is laminated on the front (and a narrow strip near the edge of the rear where it was folded). The unlaminated sleeve was made after the gatefold champagne sleeve, probably from mid-1966 to early 1968. The laminated sleeve was used from mid-1968 (it is found with B&Y and one box discs) to the early 1970s when EMI introduced the new catalog numbering system. UPDATE: I just checked my collection, and it looks like I have a transitional version, with the laminated front but NO Greek print at the bottom. Presumably, the printing company had switched to the laminated construction, but the Greek printing had not yet been added to the bottom. It has a B&Y Parlophone disc. I'll try to remember to post pictures. |
