Almost all RS and YS stickers on the US albums are fake. Before online sales (like E-bay) they were scarcely seen here (CA) Most fans (like me) couldn't wait to get that shrink wrap off to play it! I did not see a stickered copy of either until the early 80's, and it was rare to see them. Then came home computers. I have since seen people (on line) claiming they have "discovered" a roll of the yellow YS stickers and were selling one at a time off those rolls. Yeah right. You can tell most of the time from a close look at the print. Sometimes the color of the sticker itself doe's not match also, but almost ALL are fake and more and more are going on E-bay. The Capitol "Beatles are coming" stickers were around before the Beatles came to play on the Ed Sullivan Show. They were ALL OVER New York City (thanks to young kids sticking them everywhere) in late Dec 63-Jan 64, and were made before any Capitol records were released. |

Great post applehound. I couldn't agree more. Years ago, I HATED buying Beatles items that had writing or age marks or any disfigurations on them.....Now, I welcome, to some degree, wear because it sometimes shows a genuine original item. I recently found a Rubber Soul with the Michelle sticker and it had age spots all over the sticker so I knew it was real. As far as I know, faking age spots hasn't been figured out ........yet. |
