Which is the best version of this disc in terms of audio quality?

I have a 70s Apple / Electrola press and wondered where it fits in the scheme of things.

Should be o.k.
Earliest pressings of the uncompressed master are late 60s on the red Hör-Zu headphone label in a fully laminated ZENTRALE TANZSCHAFFE sleeve, but the 70s Apple pressings are from the same source.

The headphone/TV label is from 1972 on.

I'm happy with an original pressing of "Die Beatles," but of course these cost more than the 1970's reissues, so I own a reissue for playing purposes. Delightful record.

The ZTOX one is called "Please Please Me." No, that's $500.

I mean the SHZE 117 copies with the alternate cover.

Like this 1966-70 pressing:

The one with really good sound should have matrix numbers SHZE 117 A-2/SHZE 117 B-2 . I have two different pressings with this matrix numbers - "rectangular Hor Zu logo" and later "telephone Hor Zu logo". Also some of later German Apple pressings have same matrix numbers.
I use to have earlier Hor Zu pressing with SHZE 117 A-1/SHZE 117 B-1 matrices. The sound was not as good as A-2/B-2.

Oh sorry, but not all original have the A-2/B-2 matrix, so early 60s are out.

Unless your copy was used as a doormat, 40 GBP is an excellent price for the ZTOX PPM.

To command $500 though, it would probably need to be immaculate.

My guess is somewhere around 3,000 to 5,000. No solid basis, just an inference from how often it is listed for sale, with a large allowance for attrition and copies owned by people who don't want to sell it for numerous reasons.
