Just judging by the catalog number, SBOLP-335, that copy of Piper came out no earlier than 1973. The Red Album, BOLP-326, obviously was issued no earlier than 1973.

If the brown & yellow EMI label debuted in 1973, than Piper may have been one of the latest LPs to be issued on the yellow Odeon.

One data point that I have not yet mentioned is that Sgt. Pepper came out on the B&Y Odeon Pops label no earlier than 1967 (obviously). Since I have only seen a single copy, I don't know if it appeared on any other label style.

Just adding to the theories of which label was first, the dealer had told me before i purchased the Bolivia Help lp, that the red vinyl was the very first pressing. He could be wrong by means of some of the facts you guys are posting but honestly we can only guess why a red vinyl lp would be pressed, let alone only Help....

Bruno, it looks like your dealer may have been correct, and I was wrong.

I just bought a copy of Help from Bolivia. It has the reissue sleeve (printed in color instead of hand painted, and with advertisements for Rubber Soul and the BOLP-229 reissue of Please Please Me on the back). The disc has the midnight blue and orange label, and is on black vinyl.

Maybe both of our copies had the discs switched, but I tend to doubt it.

That would mean that the yellow Odeon label was in use for a very long time in Bolivia, and that other label styles were used at the same time.

Either way, I can't wait until my copy gets here. I will post pictures once it arrives.

Yeah, that's the one. I'm amazed it went so cheap. I was the bridesmaid on the copy of Yeah Yeah Yeah with the same label that sold last month for 400+.

The sleeve is a bit grubby but I can certainly live with that.

Here is second version of Help from Bolivia.

There are a few things worth noting.

1. The full color front sleeve was printed in Bolivia. This suggests that it was released after 1967. The Bolivia Sgt. Pepper used a front slick imported from Peru, meaning that Bolivian printers were probably still unable to reproduce color photographs for the LP sleeves.

2. The rear sleeve has advertisements for Please Please Me, BOLP-229 and Rubber Soul, BOLP-250. The reference to Rubber Soul confirms that this LP is a reissue. More interesting, I have never seen a BOLP-229 copy of Please Please Me. I have an earlier copy with the UK catalog number (PMC 1202) and a B&Y Parlophone label, which was probably issued in 1964. I also have a 1979 reissue on brown & yellow EMI label.

Hmm...Why does the reissue have a Parlophone cover when the original had an Odeon logo where it belonged?

Wow, I completely missed that. You're absolutely right, that is quite strange. The only thing I can think of is that the front sleeve artwork was adapted from the UK front sleeve, and the Bolivian print shop neglected to change the logo.
Yet another example of the danger of assuming that licensees in small markets acted systematically at all times.

Hi All,

I'm reviving this thread because there is a THIRD variation of Help from Bolivia.

This one has a very weird sleeve. It uses the front slick on both sides. It appears to be identical to the front slick from the other Help reissue (see second set of photos below), including the small credit for the Bolivian printer in the lower right corner.

It uses the yellow Odeon label used on Bruno's original issue (see first set of photos below), but is black vinyl. Strangely enough, that makes three confirmed copies with this label on red vinyl, and one confirmed copy on black vinyl.

Here is side A:

Here is side B:

It appears that the pressing marks are in the same place on Bruno's copy and this one, but deeper on his.

Update: On closer inspection, it is obvious that Bruno's label and mine are different. On side A, his has the English translations of the song titles in parentheses, and mine does not, and mine has the translated song titles in bold and his does not. They both have the same extra space between the apostrophe and the v in "you' ve" and the same "go" (instead of "got") misspelling. The blue label copy corrects both of these errors.

The layout for side B is completely different on the two copies.

This likely means that they were released in this order:

1. Yellow label, red vinyl, hand painted front sleeve, no advertisements for PPM and RS on rear sleeve.
2. Yellow label, black vinyl, color printed front slick on both sides (and possibly some copies with a normal rear sleeve)
3. Midnight blue label, color printed front slick, rear sleeve has advertisements for PPM and RS.

Believe it or not, I have found a fourth Bolivian label variation of Help. It is on black vinyl, yellow Odeon labels with black print, but the layout is different than the one shown above.

The position of The Beatles and the title of the LP are switched on the labels, and the layout of the song titles and credits is completely different.

These photos were taken in bad light -- the true color is bright yellow like the others.

Here's label A

And label B

You are pressing these in your basement, aren't you ?
But serious, this is quite unbelievable to see so many variants. They must have liked this LP in Bolivia. Great find ! There were some Bolivian LPs on Ebay recently, is this one of those ?
Thanks for posting !
