About 7 years ago,I was offered first crack at it from a South American dealer who I have been buying off of since the mid nineties. It is quite a rare one of a kind item and I paid a one of a kind price. |

Help! is listed in some books as being on the black label with red print (like Please Please Me). I have never seen it that way, but that would be the first printing. It doesn't make sense, though, that such a deluxe issue as that one (above) would be anything but the first issue. |

According to the dealer I bought it off of,it is the very first pressing.it was changed to the other catalog number shortly after this issue. Red vinyl, from what I'm told is only on the first issues of Help. I'm not aware of another in existence. |

I agree that it's the first pressing. By the way, notice how the cover titles differ from the label titles. "Help" is "Auxilio" on the cover and "Socorro" on the label, for example. The catalog numbers stayed in the "BOLP-" series for some time, though. |

This is one of two variations I know of. The other label style is black (update: not black, midnight blue) with "Odeon" in large red/orange letters and a small round Odeon symbol above it. The rim print runs along the top of the label, and covers 2/3 of the perimeter. There is no "33" speed indicator. It has the BOLP-227 catalog number. The other sleeve has a side-by-side Odeon/EMI logo in the uper left corner with the BOLP-227 catalog number above it. It uses the same UK front sleeve artwork, but is regularly printed instead of being hand painted like Bruno's copy. This sleeve was definitely a later reissue, because it has advertisements on the back for Please Please Me, BOLP-229 and Rubber Soul, BOLP-250. I'm not 100% sure if the front sleeve artwork was imported (as was the case with Yeah Yeah Yeah and Sgt. Pepper) or printed in Bolivia. My guess is that it was made in Bolivia, though, because it is not like the ones used in any nearby country (Argentina had an Odeon Pops logo and the title Socorro, and Chile, Peru and Brazil used completely different artwork). The earliest confirmed Bolivia-made sleeve with color photography is Abbey Road, from 1969. That means that this sleeve was probably made in 1968 or 1969. I have never seen or even heard of a Bolivia copy of Help with the Chile catalog number. I would love to see a copy though! |

Frank: Just the reverse. The black (update: not black, midnight blue) Odeon Help has a label like the one in your first link (which I bid on last week but lost). Rim print on upper 2/3 of label, no 33 indicator. The one in your second link (which is mine) is different. It has the rim print on the bottom portion of the label and the 33 indicator. The two versions of Yeah Yeah Yeah also have different rear sleeves. Mine has the large print "Los Autenticos Beatles" centered. The other one (at the first link) has it to the right. So, to recap, these are the variations I know of for the first four Bolivian LPs: PLEASE PLEASE ME Labels: - PMC 1202, B&Y Parlophone, no rim print - BOLP-229, unknown (referenced on rear sleeve of Help reissue, but not confirmed) - BOLP-402, brown & yellow EMI (1979 reissue) Sleeves: - PMC 1202, adaptation of Colombian Meet The Beatles front sleeve - BOLP-229, unknown - BOLP-402, similar to UK sleeve with balcony photo YEAH YEAH YEAH Labels: - black & orange Odeon, rim print on bottom, 33 indicator - midnight blue & orange Odeon, rim print on top, no 33 indicator Sleeves: - "Los Autenticos Beatles" centered, Argentina catalog number on rear sleeve - "Los Autenticos Beatles" to right, Argentina catalog number on rear sleeve - "Los Autenticos Beatles" centered, Bolivia catalog number on rear sleeve (I think -- this is based on the small photo in the Maus book) HELP Labels: - midnight blue & orange Odeon, rim print on top, no 33 indicator - yellow Odeon - black Odeon with Chile catalog number, no other details known (unconfirmed) Note: every copy I have seen of the yellow Odeon label (3 of them now) has had red vinyl. Sleeves: - Painted front sleeve, stacked Odeon/EMI logo on upper left sleeve - Color printed front sleeve, side-by-side Odeon EMI logo on upper left sleeve, advertisements for PPM (BOLP-229) and Rubber Soul (BOLP-250) - Chile catalog number, no other details known (unconfirmed) RUBBER SOUL Labels: B&Y Odeon Pops, adapted from Argentina label yellow Odeon Sleeve: All graphics sleeve printed in Bolivia yellow Odeon |

So what of my first link, just above? YEAH YEAH YEAH blue label with orange/yellow logo rim print across the top - "Los Autenticos Beatles" to right, Argentina catalog number on rear sleeve The label is clearly BLUE, not black, but this looks like your "black label" issue. http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-BEATLES-Yeah-Y...2557&rmvSB=true Since you HAVE seen Help! with the "black" label, why would they go to a deluxe issue on red vinyl for a SECOND pressing? Did they just have some red vinyl biscuits to get rid of?? |

I suppose I had assumed that there was an issue with the lighting or something but you've persuaded me that the one at your first link (the recent ebay copy) is definitely midnight blue. So I went back and took a very careful look at the photos of the "black" label Help, and sure enough it is midnight blue also. So there's one mystery solved, and misinformation corrected before it infected the legions of hard core Bolivia LP collectors (both of us  ) As for the question of why make a red vinyl version of Help, I can't be sure. It is the only Beatles LP I know of from Bolivia on any kind of colored vinyl, and it's the only Beatles record (LPs, EPs and singles) I know of from Bolivia on red vinyl. There is an EP with tracks from Abbey Road, BOD-5183, on yellow vinyl with Apple labels. Here's a link: http://www.popsike.com/THE-BEATLES-Abbey-R...0149372404.html Samuel Coomans' web site also references a copy of the same EP on green vinyl, but there is no picture and I haven't purchased the volume of his series that would include it (since I collect LPs). His information has been reliable in my experience. My only guess, and it isn't a super persuasive one but it's all I've got, is that Lyra was experimenting with colored vinyl, and gave it up after trying a red LP, a yellow EP and a green EP. My estimation -- and it is only an estimation -- is that the different labels were used in this order: 1. B&Y Parlophone. I am quite certain about this. It was probably used in 1964 only. 2. Black & orange Odeon, with 33 indicator and bottom rim print. I'm pretty confident about this one too. Probably used in 1964 and possibly 1965. I'm a lot less confident about the order of the last three styles, but here's my best guess. 3. Midnight blue and orange Odeon, no 33 indicator and top rim print. Circa 1965-1966 (?). 4. B&Y Odeon Pops. Circa 1965-1967 (?). 5. Yellow Odeon. Circa 1966-1968 (?). It would not surprise me at all if this order is wrong. |

The yellow Odeon label was used for quite some time. Here's Pink Floyd's Piper album, which (in Bolivia) came out AFTER Atom Heart Mother (SBOLP-333), as part of "A Nice Pair." http://pinkfloydarchives.com/Discog/Bolivia/LP/Piper/L2.jpg The label was still being used as late as 1972 on EP (Compact 33) releases, according to 45cat. It probably remained until 1973, when EMI created their own imprint. |

Just adding to the theories of which label was first, the dealer had told me before i purchased the Bolivia Help lp, that the red vinyl was the very first pressing. He could be wrong by means of some of the facts you guys are posting but honestly we can only guess why a red vinyl lp would be pressed, let alone only Help.... |
