I was wondering, with allot of repro's flying around the internet, some i noticed are actually sold as being "Rerpo's". I did actually buy a couple of demo's from gabybutti in the early days of his eBay selling and obviously as time has passed I have realised that they are not real. I noticed even Parlogram fell into the trap. If you saw a repro Beatles record on the internet and it was described as being a repro clearly in the description would you mind that being on eBay even if you were not interested in buying it. I would like a second opinion as i have a couple from gabybutti but i would sell them clearly stating that there repros. I don't really want them anymore... What do you think.... |

I don't think there's anything that should prevent you from selling them, accurately decribing them as what they are. Is there some chance that the buyer would subsequently try to pass them off as something else? Sure. That doesn't mean you should be condemned to permanently hang onto records that no longer hold any charm. |

The problem I have with repros is that, if they truly are faithful reproductions, the buyer may use them to sell to less savvy buyers as authentic. I just notified three different sellers on ebay that the Capitol Records 45s and picture sleeves they posted were Richard Minor fakes from the early 80s. I received rude emails in reply and those fakes went for a combined total north of $145. So-called Fantasy Sleeves are different. People collect them and there is no risk. Even Richard Minor fakes are collectible. I've sold them for around $35 each as MINOR FAKES. But people are being duped. It's a crap shoot. |

i would prefer that they did not exist but like Canute I cannot hold that tide back therefore I have no problem if listed as " repro's " |

Doesn't bother me either way. I know enough to avoid, and, to be honest, I believe in the old saying caveat emptor. No different to Nigerian scammers, or door-to-door salesmen... |

They actually do bother me. Stuff like the Fresh From Apple leaflets are so well made, they will have aged considerably in a few years' time, making it hard to distinguish them from genuine copies ("well they smell old, so they must be real") |

i do agree Ed but like i say what can we do ? that ship has sailed but yes I would prefer these things did not exist but i can't wish them away....I mean look at the new mono repro's from universal, some are so good that it may be that they are hard to tell from the real thing, i wished they had not done that too, just putting a universal copyright or something out of sight on the inside would have been nice !! |

I wouldn't mind if the items themselves stated somewhere that they were reproductions. Otherwise, they're just counterfeits. |

I wouldn't mind faithful reproductions as long as there were a discreet but clear and difficult to remove indicator that it is a repro. |

whilst we may love or loath these items, it is really immaterial. They exist. We could argue that the 50th anniversay LMD should be condemned as a repro(though it is obviously so,so shouldn't cause a problem). However, pirates/repros have been around for a long time, and may even serve a purpose if sold honestly. Personally I would entertain a repro LMD demo with a discreet "repro" mark for a tenner as a real one is way beyond pocket money! As said, caveat emptor indeed. AH |
