I spotted a Polydor Oldies today and nabbed it for the princely sum of £5.99. This is the label photo, which is a bit rough, but shows the label and a Polydor-esque matrix number.

I'll keep mine back until I'm on to the rarer stuff. Sell it alongside the Emerald presses. See how it goes. If it goes for a fiver, oh well. =)

Got it today. Definitely Polydor! Has the Polydor matrix stampers on side 1 and, interestingly, more EMI esque stampers on side 2.

Detouring back to Kenya for a second, while compiling my list of worldwide EMI manufacturers I found a reference that points to Associated Sound (East Africa) being the licensee in Kenya prior to 1973, when Sapra took over. The arrangement appears not to have been directly between EMI and ASEA, but between EMI and Decca, who licensed to ASEA to press.

That LIB looks like a Kenyan pressing, like the HJ export label I posted above. Rsinig noted already the difference between the oldies and the HJ copy.

Looks suspiciously like this... Posted Image

Seems to be the "fingerprint" for EA Records pressings.

Yes, most probably E.A., also because of what rsinige found stamped on his copy, and because of the fact that the Kenyan Parlophone singles look exactly like E.A. pressings (see page 3 of the thread). And because E.A. pressings mention Polydor of Phonogram maybe.

OK, here's what I've found after some extensive digging....

Between 1966 and 1970, EMI used Associated Sound as their Kenyan manufacturer
Between 1970 and Sep 1973, EMI UK used E.A. Records as their Kenyan manufacturer
Between Sep 1973 and 1976, EMI UK used Sapra as their Kenyan associate and manufacturer
Between 1976 and 1977, EMI reverted back to EA Records as their Kenyan manufacturer
Between 1978 and 1979, EMI had its own manufacturing premises (not sure if they took over Sapra or built their own)
In late 1979, EMI pulled out of Kenya completely.

Other points of note:
- EA Records was Kenya's only pressing plant in 1980, so Sapra had to have closed down at some point.

Also found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PINK-FLOYD-Anoth...=p2047675.l2557 from 1979 and refers to EMI (EA) as the manufacturer! Interestingly, an article I read from Nov 79 states EMI had already pulled out, yet this single wasn't released *in the UK* until late Nov 79, so would have come out up to three months later in Kenya. Intriguing.

Anyway, still digging, but it's falling into place...

Great info ! Amazing you are able to dig up such detailed pressing plant information, Jae. Like this a lot.
More than GBP 1,100 for that Pink Floyd single from Kenya, unbelievable.....
