Record Grading Systems

The standard one most people seem to use is from the Record Collector magazine.

I've seen others which seem to have many fine descriptions of the top end of the market but which are overinflate the grade of poor records to the extent it devalues the system. This one just doesn't want to go below VG:

Still Sealed: cover is in complete shrink wrap (record can not be taken out without breaking seal)

Near Mint: nearly perfect condition, hardly any surface marks, hardly any needle noise, played or unplayed

Mint-: great condition, minimal light surface marks, minimal low needle noise

vg++: very good condition, some light surface marks, some low needle noise

Vg+: good condition, some more light surface marks, some more low needle noise

Vg: endurable condition, obvious signs of use, more obvious needle noise

Vg-: bad condition, strong signs of use, constant strong needle noise

Even the RC grade of GOOD generally implies binnable so why not have a bit more honesty rather than using euphemisms?

this is not something perculiar to records, from a kid i recall coins have a similar misleading grading system in that good is also near binable

However there is nothing any one person can do to change things, we just have to live with the generally accepted terms as we all have a more or less rough idea what they are and mean, it is universal.

Maybe we should just do away with fair and poor though...good is bad enough lol !!!
