I'm sure we all have some conflict about the correct bags for our prized singles. Checking my resources (Spizer, Yokono, 45sleeves and the Beatles collection) I find disagreement about the correct sleeves for my singles. Do we have a consensus of opinion about which resource is the most reliable, or do we accept some fluidity in our choice of bag? AH |

Well, I'd say Spizer is the most reliable of all these. Yokoono puts lots of question marks on many things such as the issue of a disc. Beatles collection makes some minor mistakes when it comes to determine when a pressing was produced. Personally, I'm not that into 45s but I would certainly not accept the "old trashed and dirty cover"....I'd be accurate. |

Cheers Phil. I'm not suggesting any old bag, but there seems to be no clear time frame for all the bags. I was wondering if there was some consensus on bag choices for each single. Whilst some are clear cut, others are not. AH |

oh yes there is....without banging my own drum I am confident I have it totally sussed so ask away..but you are quite right there are several cross over issues and several sleeves were being used at the same time, but they all have periods where they were the most common used for a particular single, so you can have a correct sleeve for a single but it might no necessarily the most usual one found for that single... There is also a guy who has an inner sleeves site in Norway I think, he also has it pretty much accurate and its not just Parlophone he has ALL UK sleeves, its a great piece of work !! here : http://45-sleeves.com/ |

Maybe this is a big ask Henry......any chance you can make a one stop shop for sleeves here. If we can have a pic and a list of singles it fits that would be great. I checked the thread here with links to all the singles, but many of the pics appear to have evaporated! At the moment I'm stuck on finding appropriate sleeves for Ticket to ride. I've managed to find a dealer who lets me steal any Parlophone bags from his stash of spares, so hopefully I should remedy my shortage and choices. AH |

Bruce and I did a lot of work with both the LP and 45 sleeves. Basically, we polled everyone who had an interest in them (including this group). Then I took scan samples of 45 sleeves from non-Parlophone, EMI singles. There were patterns, and in some cases there would be a Columbia sleeve (for example) that had a clue to its date of introduction. It's actually kind of cool to see the early Columbia, HMV, and Parlophone sleeves together. |

I spent an hour in a local thrift shop today just looking at the sleeves on the 45's, they think I am mad. Just love the old ones that advertise a particular record shop. :D |

The Record Collector Price guide 2012 lists the correct sleeves for the records with pictures of the sleeve variants. The Ticket To Ride single is listed as a Type 2 Green sleeve with rectangular box on front [Parlophone EMI] and 6/- to 50/- record tokens on reverse. |

Without looking at it, I am often Scepitcal of many things in record collector They are not wrong on Ticket to Ride but that is not the whole story. There are 3 poss 4 sleeve types that would be correct for Ticket to Ride, one is the rectangular box with flaps on each side which also is right for I feel fine, the other and most common for ticket to ride is a similar sleeve bit with the flaps along the side and the bottom in a L shape and there is also a more modern style sleeve white at the top and bottom with a central green band and parlophone in green ( not black ) this sleeve also has two variants with the flaps on each side and also flaps on the side and bottom. These last two are more common on Help but all the last three can be equally common on Help as well Yes just ask away on discs and I can point you in the right bag direction... |

ps if you look at the 45 sleeves page the sleeves for ticket to ride are nos 17 to 20 in my opinion he is slightly wrong with the start date for 17, in my opinion it is late 1964 lasting to mid 65 16 is a kind of transitional from 15-17 in that it has the flips but also just the round parlophone logo, it is correct for AHDN and I feel fine and arrives mid 64 |

Let's not forget that most singles remained in print for years... so for most titles various types of sleeves are possible. |

absolutely correct, although timeline is very important as you cannot have a later disc in an earlier sleeve.....many dealers will just put any disc in a type A as they are the most numerous.... |

yes you can see the corporate family id of the sleeves, plus in others too like Capitol MGM etc... Columbia though must have the most varied of all the sleeves, they also use three different colours, green, red and blue and in 1967/8 there were red green and blue sleeves that were in use at the same time. And in 1967 you get that brief period where EMI issued two sleeves to be used for Columbia Parlophone and HMV alongside the individual company sleeves. And my favourite has to be the ascot water heater sleeve for HMV, circa 64-5, how bloody bizarre is that !! 65 guineas and no messing. well something like that, maybe G 45 11s and 6d lol !! ( ps for those that do not remember or are too young or who are not British, a guinea was 1 pound and 1 shilling, G 1.05 in todays money and was used for medium ticket items like furniture , electricals and also things like suits - ....I liked guineas, the term initially survived decimalisation but it soon after dissapeared from use ) |

As a slight slant on the subject of sleeves, can anybody help with info on the repro parlophone sleeves. I have all the ones you can get but does anybody have or know where you can get the Miners make up sleeves or the other two 'fran the fan' sleeves in repro form. I cannot find them anywhere , surely someone must have made some up... |
