Being a (German) Beatles fan as well as a fan of the British Isles, I've spent my holidays over the last 30+ years all over GB - I've been almost everywhere between Land's End and Ullapool. But I've never been to Liverpool. I kind of saved it for ... later. Being in my late fourties now, I think it's time to to go up there this summer. Now here's the question: Would it be a good idea to go there during International Beatleweek, Aug. 2013. A good idea to let this trip coincide with the International Beatles Convention? I heard there are also quite a few record stores up there that are worthwile checking out? Any advice on Beatle-fan-holidays in Liverpool welcome! Will any of you regulars show up at the convention? Then lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink ... :D |

Hm, silence in the woods. As they say: No answer is an answer. So I best stay away from the convention and festival week and go there some other time, when the old fab4cow isn't milked to death again. Yah, I'll probably go there in autumn and spend August in Spain. |

Hi! :) It may be the best idea.... I'm sure that Liverpool will be packed with tourists during that week! There's plenty to see any other time though, including the Albert Dock museum, which is always worth a visit! |

But might not there be extra things on? Being the 50th anniversary of PPM etc - 1963 was a big year for the boys. All depends if you do or dont like crowds I suppoise but sometimes its part of the deal to get/see something extra/better. |

Went down a good few times from Scotland years ago. Always came back with loads of good vinyl. There were plenty of dealers selling great stuff. I am actually thinking about going back down this year. All depends what you are looking for. I drove down on the Sunday morning and came back at night. Long drive but a greta day out. |

Thanks for your comments so far. So Sun, 25 August, is the day for us vinyl fans. Maybe I'll check that day out and stay for two more nights to enjoy the city without the all-too-obvious beatles tourists. Thanks Yellowsubmariner! |

Williams is one of the people behing the first Beatles conventions in Liverpool. I've heard that he still is a regular VIP guest and it would be fun to hear him talk about the Jac etc.. He must be in his 80s now - which I count as another PRO for a trip there this August. |

If your looking to buy vinyl then you need to be in Liverpool from Friday 23rd as there will be record fairs around the city on that day, then Saturday 24th will be the Annual Beatles Auction at Lippa (Mccartneys school of performing arts) usually some good vinyl in the Auction plus loads of original Memorabillia, well worth going. Then Sunday 25th is the huge convention at the Adelphi, massive record fair with dealers from all over the world and yes usually both Alan Williams and Sam Leach will be there plus many of the other usual suspects. There will also be record fairs going on on Monday. Most of the pubs especially those based on or around Mathew St will have Beatles tribute acts on and in particular The Cavern. Dont expect it to be quieter on Monday & Tuesday, it is "International Beatles Week" and the tourists will still be out in force on those days and take it from me, i live in Liverpool and it can get very very bust over these days. It is a great weekend and i would recommend it to any Beatles fan. D |

Well, what time does to one's memory! I once shook Garth Hudson's hand on the parking lot of Bearsville Theatre. I very well remember his words. He asked: "Are you Joe from Norway?" I said: "No". He signed Levon Helm's book for me and that was my encounter with a real RnR hall-of-famer. Strange folk these musicians. Had to tell somebody ... |

And, to make this clear, these fairs are on during International Beatleweek? Or is Liverpool a good place for vinyl enthusiasts all year round? I'm just asking because I am somewhat disappointed by the shops in London. I've been basically in every shop that has ads in Mojo magazine and of course many others, too. Meanwhile in many of those shops it's like at a jeweller's. You only find a cover or a handwritten discription. Or a copy of a cover. With that you go to a staff member who vanishes for minutes in some basement only to come back with a badly scratched item you normally would never spend minutes of waiting on. Apart from that: The prices for 2nd hand-vinyl seemed far too high. Will these shops survive I asked myself. Probably not, following the general trend. Sad ... |
