Quite bad all round for sellers, then add the fact that records are getting hit with vat if you import them. The couple of times I have sold things to Norway the guy has asked me to mark the price down for customs, wonder how many Brits will be doing the same when ordering from outside the EU.

As always, the UK is at least 5 years behind ;) This already happend in my country in the early 2000s. A domestic parcel up to 2 kg is 6.75 euro, no matter what size or weight ! It seems "they" are leveling the rates throughout Europe now. Sending abroad is terribly expensive and registrered or insured is just not an option anymore for a record that sells for less than 100. And then there's at least 5 different companies active on a given day, they come driving through my street all in their own cars because the government wants an open market. In the past there was just one postman, whom everybody knew, rates were fair, service was good and stamps were nice.

that specifically annoys me viz Norway, Norway are not in the EU but they and Switzerland are part of the EEA and the single market so their customs should not be involved with imports from other EEA and EU countries...but apparently they do that's why we have to use CN22 customs forms to there...whats the point of them being in the single market if they do that, its outrageous imho

What's even more annoying/outrageous is the fact that import tax is being added to second-hand stuff. Stuff for which tax has already been paid for when it was sold new...

There are two Amazon warehouses and a call centre near me, one totally built with government money and staffed by minimum wagers on 12 week contracts and unemployed on a government scheme, (workfare -new deal or whatever). How much tax do Amazon pay, nothing. Compete with that.

AND they seem to get huge discounts on shipping rates no one else gets. No way can anyone compete with that...... it's sad.

In the United States, eBay has rolled out a new program for International Shipments. I haven't had time to see what the catch is but the basic idea is this...

"Enroll in the Global Shipping Program - Finally, international shipping made simple. No customs forms. No hassles.

Selling globally is easy, and international shipping is now hassle free. Once your item sells, just ship to a US hub and the rest is taken care of. Why not give it a try? Here's how it works:

1. Ship sold item to the US shipping center - Use eBay labels and tracking for the domestic leg is automatically uploaded for you and your buyer.

2. The Global Shipping Program takes care of the rest - Customs forms, import charges, and international shipping - including international tracking.

3. Package clears customs and is delivered to your buyer - Item is sent quickly and you're not responsible for loss or damage during the international transit."

What do you think? Has this program been offered yet in the UK? eBay is sure to have a hidden fee where it makes it cut of the deal. It seems too good to be true.
