I just went into my local PO this morning, they know me quite well obviously! At the moment 1 LP first class in the UK with a large mailer and two stiffeners costs £2.70. I was told after April 2nd this will more than double to £5.70 give or take a few pence. MORE THAN DOUBLE!!!!! Air Mail will also be going up although hey didn't know the rates for sure yet. Well I am GOBSMACKED (UK slang for extremely surprised!) and have decided to sell one more batch of about a dozen LPs on ebay before the end of this month and that's it. If I sell after April I will have to look at alternatives, shame because I have always supported my local village post office as it nearly closed down a couple of years ago. This will affect all sellers on ebay. Sellers will have to charge about £6 P&P for single LPs if they want to cover costs and people like Henry who offer free postage will either have to stump up more or start charging. Sad.... it seems the Royal Mail is going down the toilet! |

Ive been looking into this for a while and of Royal Mails competitors internally there a few but internationally DHL can be amazing, but I dont think for small volume sales, you'd have to be pushing through a lot to get a discount. I wouldnt be too harsh on them though - 2.70 at the mo and even 5.70 is still cheaper than what we have here in Aust. Only the US internal mail is like really obviously cheap. How much weight can you get for that 2.70? and do you know what the 5.70 mark up would give you - more? Here they have these bizarre contradictions - If I sent a plain mailer envelope, 1 LP with stamps stuck on it to say Western Aust - as far as possible to go from me here in Brisbane - it would cost 20 odd dollars but express overnight post - $11.20 for up to 1kg. Its 11.20 to everywhere. Even if I sent an LP in a mailer to another suburb of Bris it would still be more than 11.20. So obviously I use the express post way. maybe Royal mail has some kind over overnight express thingy? |
