It appears to me, unless I'm wrong that many of you on here are dealers. Is there anyone who is primarily or just a collector? There have been many that just come here for a short visit to find out if their item is worth anything or to advertise their wares via ebay, incidentally there is nothing wrong with that it’s just that I’m still peeved about the promise of a LMD if I bought the box set of LP’s from ‘What Records’, sorry. Anyway what type of collector are you? Personally I’m a collector that has sold 2 items in 10 years on ebay. Incidentally the title is 'What type of Beatles Collector are you?' |

First and foremost I am a collector. Been collecting seriously since round about 1973. I became a 'dealer' almost by accident. I used to help a guy with his stall and one day I asked him if I could bring along a bunch of spare records I had. And over the years that grew into having my own stalls at Beatles Fairs and now even having my own website where I sell/trade stuff and occasionally I will sell some spare stuff on eBay. I am of the type that knows no boundaries, I'm afraid. I can get as excited about finding a mint original UK album as I do finding a piece of memorabilia, a nice genuine autograph, gum cards, records from all over the world, anything to do with Apple records, etc. etc. |

I'm a collector. Just can't bring myself to part with anything! I have sold records, but very rarely any Beatles. When I buy something, like a duplicate, or an LP that's not in great condition, I think, "I'll sell that on Ebay" , but never do! Hence my collection grows. I have catalogued everything I own of the Beatles in an Excel spreadsheet. All the LP's, singles, tapes, reels. All the different pressings, sleeves, inners, variations etc. All copied to my iPhone so when i'm out and about and see a Beatles record for sale, I can check if I've got it, or if its a better copy etc. Geeky, I know, but I love it! Cheers, Richard |

I started out collecting all the UK Polydor/Parlophone/Apple original 1st pressings - LPs, EPs and 45s. Didn't think it would take as long as it did, but I was looking for a certain standard of quality. It was only when I joined this forum that I learned how many label and pressing variations existed! I had to make the choice of ignoring the label variations but I certainly couldn't ignore the Revolver 606-1 pressing, the Rubber Soul -1 pressing, or a MONO black and gold label Please Please Me - I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably never own the STEREO counterpart. I was then persuaded to add the highly regarded German stereo Please Please Me and Magical Mystery Tour pressings. At that point, I thought I was finished as I had all the listening copies I was looking for, but...you're never really done collecting are you? I then decided I would add all the German Polydor/Odeon 1st pressing EPs and 45s that were different from the UK releases - I'm still working on that! Along the way, I couldn't resist With the Beatles and Beatles' Beat. At the time that I decided to add the German pressings, I thought I would attempt to also collect the Capitol Canada pressings that also were different from the UK canon - that too I'm still working on, but then it was the pre-Capitol US releases....will it ever end?? Highly unlikely...I just purchased a top copy of a 3rd state MONO Yesterday and Today, professionally peeled. The purchase included the trunk pasteover slick, also in beautiful condition! I will soon be selling my duplicate copies in order to eat... ;) |

Always buy. Never sell. First in 1978, I started making a list of Beatles songs that I liked and wanted to buy. I started with random group records -- whatever pressings were around. Then I started looking for US first pressings. Then solo records. Then all US pressings through 1975. Then all tape formats. Then song variations (e.g., stereo and mono versions of "Help!") from around the world. Then UK albums. Then UK singles. Then French 1st pressings. Then German 1st pressings. Then original pressings from most countries through 1970. Then "anything interesting." Next...??? |

very similar story to my own, i started collecting in 1974 then on my discovery of ebay i found i could upgrade and often sell my 2nds for more than i paid for the upgrade. And my collection just keeps growing, been offered a 1st FOUR cardboard promo box with the four singles for 1000 euros, any thoughts, should i do it ?? Cut me and i bleed collector, i only deal to feed my collecting habit first hehehe ps i concentrate on UK but have some bits and bobs from elsewhere, i have some nice ameicam original LP's for example but home is where the heart is... |

I feel your pain on the "promises" made by some people..... I started collecting in the 80's and had completed the complete UK Beatles and solo catalogue by the mid nineties. Sold the lot in 96 or so. A year and a half ago after resisting for years I decided to start again. Almost back to where I was when I sold my last collection with a few notable absentees - UK Wedding Album, Two Virgins and a couple more. I buy and sell through Ebay only to help build my collection. I miss the old days in some ways, waiting for Record Collector to come out and write to or phone the sellers but Ebay is so bloody easy! This forum has been a great place to get help and it's nice to know that there are few with the same "addiction" as me! |

I am 99.9 % collector, although I suspect I may begin selling my duplicates in a low key way. I am primarily into original issue LPs from outside the US and UK. Basically, the more improbable the country, the greater my interest. I try to maintain some semblance of sanity by not getting hung up on variations (the glaring exception is Introducing The Beatles), and by mostly passing up EPs and singles. |

I must confess I am strictly a UK singles and EP man myself, I just couldn't afford to branch out into memorabilia or international vinyl as the more wide and varied your collecting field grows so does the cost of trying to get the items you need. And there are always the elusive and very expensive items that you need to fill those missing pieces in your collection. Ive found that even limiting myself to the UK singles and EP's I must have spent a fortune on my collection ( ive never added it all up) and I dont want to. I will spend a lot tho on something I consider rare that Ive been after for a while. The few remaining wants that I need are owned by some of you on here - you know who you are- but I find the less you need the harder it is to locate , Damn you panini sticker album ,why didn't I learn my lesson. |
