Gotta just shake your head at Nik Cohn's review including his summary of George's two songs as "two songs by George Harrison, mediocrity incarnate"

That was a brutal review! The guy thinks Lennon was singing "Oh! Darling"??

yes not worth the paper it was written on, I've a copy of the 1969 review from Sounds which i found inside an original LP....you can find a lot of paper clippings in LP's, the sounds review is obviously far better

I guess Sounds must have been fairly new in 1969

Yeah this is the best part...

``Oh! Darling'' is more complex. Basically, it's just a 1950's ballad, the kind of thing that the Platters or the Penguins might have done. Lennon has always had a terrific voice, and here he halfway tears his lungs out. Just the same, it doesn't sound right. Why not? Just because he tries too hard."

Perhaps it doesn't sound right because it's Paul.
