Has anyone tried this method of cleaning their records? It looks so simple and gentle - this is my new recommended method! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z61k5UAWev8&feature=r elated or maybe this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBcubKfXy1U&feature=related this guy seems slightly less lunatic, but I'm still a bit worried! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6OjtKUZ048&feature=fvwrel Has anyone tried any of these? |

Here' s my new method: Put the disk, you'd like to clean right before you. Have a keen look at the surface and take all sorts of sand paper, fine, medium and rough. Look, if you can see any of these nasty 'grooves' on the surface of your record - get rid of these grooves immediately, they just demage your record! If you arrived at a blank surface, no grooves any more, take a bottle of furniture polish and make your record look like brand new - perfect! |

My method of cleaning is closer to Method 2. I clean everything that I buy with Dawn Liquid detergent and warm tap water, using a camel hair shaving brush in a circular motion with the grooves - generally in both directions. I rinse thoroughly, again under tap water, dry with surgical room absorbent wipes - my wife has access to these super soft and absorbent beauties! - and finish with her hair dryer - this step might be redundent as the absorbent wipes seem to suck up virtually everything on the surface and up from the grooves. I only do this cleaning once when I first receive the vinyl. I've done it for years with no problems to the vinyl or labels, which sometimes take a fair amount of moisture in the process. There have been many times that I did play the vinyl I received without the cleaning, but then found that subsequent plays after going through my cleaning process did show improvement in playback quality - as might be expected. At any rate, the important point is that NO damage has ever occurred to the vinyl or labels. |

I tried the wood glue method once on a crackly Led Zep 4 - it didnt damage the LP but it also didnt make any differenece at all to the crackling!! I aslo do the washing under the tap with 2 drops of dishwashing detergent and it works a treat. Never had any damage to anything and you can tell when they are clean cos they feel all squeaky clean when you wash off the detergent. Did it to a HorZu MMT just yesterday which was all crackly and poppy and it got rid of all of it (the crackles and pops). Might have to get a shaving brush to add to the cleaning - I just use my fingers to gently rub the soap over it. |

As I think I have stated previously, I use mild unscented washing detergent to carefully prewash my vinyl (and then rise it) before using my record cleaning 'machine'. I use a soft shaving brush for this and it really helps. I never get water on the labels though - a complete no-no! |
