Yes, I would go for circa 63-4 for the destruction of the LMD master.

Yes, wiped clean off, dirty harry fashion!!! Or maybe recorded over to save money... :D

The copies of the 50th Anniversary LMD versions should now, IMO be officially regarded as 30th January 2013 pre releases maybe?!

As Namralos and AH suggests... The original September 4th 1962 recording sessions and masters, quite possibly, were deliberatly 'lost' or 'destroyed' perhaps in 1963-1964!

I've always been led to believe that the original master was destroyed to avoid the incorrect use of the original single version on future reissues, which was presumably deemed inferior to the LP version by 1965.

How ironic.

I know this is optimistic.......but does anyone on this board believe I have a chance of trading a withdrawn LMD for a red PPM or Black LMD? I'm possibly getting a spare tommorow (not cheap) and wonder what the odds are. Any offers?

Admiral I would but my PPM is a 1G 1G and my LMD black is a SIUK one!

What else would you want to swap one for?

How about an Australian 1964 mono and stereo AHDN?

Or a complete stereo top opening WA?

I managed a.tradee for some HMV cd sets for aStereo white. But thr Admirals budget will not otherwise afford these uk singles Thanks for the offer though. If you think you can secure a respectable copy of either to trade let me know.

If I manage to get the spare, the YS stereo sounds tempting. I have a copy of LMD for myself. I have another one saved for me, but hope to get a third for trading purposes. I have a price for them, it's just a case of being allowed to buy two from this dealer. Fingers crossed.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a curmudgeon, you can stick this next to the RSD Paperback Writer in the desirability stakes as far as I'm concerned. It's a rarity that has absolutely *nothing* to do with the Beatles during their recording career.

As for LMD itself, I just played my original single and it still sounds naff  :D

I have to agree, but the buyers have got the ball rolling now. It will be interesting to see whether these mispressings will actually gain in legendary status and value (think Butcher cover) as time passes - I have to assume that's where the bet is. Otherwise, for the money, they'de be better advised to search out decent originals.

I have 2 original red UK Parlophone label copies and the 2 most collectable black Parlophone labels, one with the "Sold in UK..." text, the other without, all in Ex+ condition. Except for the one copy, I paid, on average, about the same as the current mispressings. :)
