I recall reading some time ago about a version of The Ballad Of John And Yoko, possibly a New Zealand Demo where the word 'christ' is edited out of the mix. I can't find anything discussed on it here. ( I may have missed it!) And wonder if any member has a copy with some pictures to upload? |

It definitely exists. It was edited specifically for radio play in NZ. I don't have a copy, but I know where you can get one for huge money (I think its about $800 but I'm too lazy to look it up). Back on planet earth, I just bought a copy of the other example of this song being censored -- the Spanish pressing of Beatles Again (Hey Jude) LP. I got an original pressing on the dark blue Odeon one box label for 12 GBP, which is a whole lot more manageable than the $800 NZ single. The light blue reissues of the Spanish LP are a lot more plentiful, but with a little patience you can find the dark blue first releases for a pretty reasonable price. It's odd seeing only three tracks on side B of the Spanish LP. |

Several radio stations in the US refused to air the song because of that word: just a bit of curiosity, it reached number 8 in this country. |

Yes, I have the NZ press. However the 'christ' vocal is on that. The youtube audio doesn't match the DJ version. |

The "standard" NZ single includes the word. Copies pressed for NZBC (Govt owned radio) have the word edited as per the YouTube video. These copies generally have a yellow NZBC sticker applied to the A side, like this one: Posted Image My transfer of the single is in better nick than the YouTube one (and also better than the one that's currently "booted"), although every copy I've heard sounds slightly fuzzy, so I'm not sure whether it's the pressing or the dubbing. |
