Here's a thread to discuss the rarest US 45's out there.

So here's my list:

VJ498 - Please Please Me/Ask Me Why
VJ522 - From Me To You/Thank You Girl

What's funny about the latter is I always hear about how desirable VJ498 is but it seems from what I read that VJ522 is probably even rarer! Did VJ ever reissue it or was it only issued as PPM/From Me To You in 1964?

Also:
PPM/From Me To You p/s: seems like the p/s is relatively rare but not impossible to find. I've definitely seen it before for around $100

Can't Buy Me Love/You Can't Do That p/s - now THIS one seems really really hard to find, to the point where I'll probably not even be able to find a filler one. I checked around and people were paying up to $500 on ebay for this, good Lord! I guess I should get the Target reissue from last year or just look at my "I Want To Hold Your Hand"/Saw Her Standing.... sleeve as it's,you know, identical.

Any others that I forgot?

The rarest US single is almost certainly the original Decca release of My Bonnie (from 1962, if memory serves). It went nowhere commercially and sunk from sight. My impression is that it was such a dud that it is easier to find promo copies than commercial copies.

If you're looking for VJ 498 and VJ 522, you want...
a) the version of VJ 498 with a # in front of 498 instead of "VJ."
B) VJ 498 with the later brackets logo
c) VJ 522 with thin print and (McCartney Lennon) in a smaller font.
These are scarcer than the west-coast copies that one usually sees.

Of course, the Decca "My Bonnie" commercial copies are certainly rare.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you mean "rare" and "not necessarily most valuable," try finding these commercial releases:

a) John's "Cold Turkey" single on the Apple label with Capitol logo on the b-side.
B) the "Strawberry Fields Forever" single with subsidiary print
c) WMCA picture sleeve for "I Want to Hold Your Hand"
d) sleeve/mailer for "The Beatles Talking"/"You Can't Do That"
e) west coast thumb-tab sleeve for "Long and Winding Road"
f) "She Loves You" -- black label copy; Monarch pressing with the title in BOLD
g) a set of west-coast copies of the singles on the OLDIES label -- they're all rare
h) error pressing of "We Can Work It Out" on the Star Line label
i) "A Hard Day's Night" west-coast pressing from c. 1968 with Maclen Music listed on the A-side ahead of Unart.

If you're going for scarcities, you must pick the rarest label variations.

There are plenty of rare promo releases, including that one, which is indeed ridiculously rare. That's why I specified "commercial" in my post. Otherwise, one would have to get all the promo releases from United Artists for "A Hard Day's Night," "Help!," and "Let it Be." [I believe the only promo release for Yellow Submarine was an LP.]

There's also the US ATCO - Aint She Sweet / Nobodys Child with a very collectable sleeve.
I have the demo vinyl (looks genuine!) but am missing the rare sleeve. (still looking!)

Does anyone have it. It would compliment my 45 lovely?!! :)

There are three copies of the sleeve on eBay right now, one of which appears to be more reasonably priced than the others.

That reminded me, though, of how hard it was to find all the variants of the original commercial single of "She Loves You." Brutally difficult.
