Possibly a price code update sticker ? I have an Abbey Road with (printed) U prefix on the back cover as well BTW, though T may be more common. I had a look closer look at the red label Peppers and I found the following: the first stereo red label (circled S) did not have the mono/stereo compatibility statement (it did have "STEREO"), the second red label issue (uncircled S) has the compatibility statement + "STEREO" and the third and last red label issue (uncircled S) has the compatibility statement but lacks "STEREO". Subsequent black and blue labels have the statement but no "STEREO". This pattern of label changes clearly reflects the phasing out of mono and the predominance of stereo by early '69 or so. The only thing that puzzles me still is why the mono SPLHCB was released on the black and blue Odeon labels. What was the use of separate mono pressings if the stereo pressings "peut etre utilisé avec un lecteur MONO" ? Why bother to press a separate mono, the only reason I can think of is the difference in the mix, but would anyone care in 1968-9 ? |
