Country-specific Beatles Reference Works

On another thread, somebody recommended The Italian Sides of the Beatles, by Stefano Cipriani. I also recently came across a reference to an Argentina-only Beatles reference book (can't remember title or author).

I'm sure similar reference works exist for other countries or regions. I'm sure they would be very useful to anybody who is collecting from that area, especially if it is one that is not as well documented in the broader references like the Christopher Maus books (which are excellent, in my opinion, but not intended to be exhaustive).

What other country- or region-specific references are others aware of?

This request is not limited to books. If a web site does a thorough job with a particular country, that is also useful. Here are some useful country-specific web sites:

Australia: http://beatlesaustralia.com/index.html (also includes information about an Australia Beatles book)

Canada: http://www.capitol6000.com/beatlesdiscs.html

Japan: http://yokono.co.uk/collection/beatles/jap...e/japanese.html

Perhaps the most useful part of the Japan site is an illustrated history of the obi, showing the many variations that accompanied the different releases of the Beatles in Japan from 1964 to the 1980s: http://yokono.co.uk/collection/beatles/jap..._lp_od_obi.html

Obviously, Bruce Spizer's books cover the US and the UK pretty exhaustively. Since many of the US Spizer books are out of print, however, good alternative US references would be useful.

Thanks in advance!

Australia: http://beatlesaustralia.com/index.html (also includes information about an Australia Beatles book)

I'm the author of the Australian Beatles book, which is now long out of print (although e-copies are still available). Two print runs sold out in just over six months!

Due to this overwhelming response, I've been working on a revised and expanded edition.

The revised edition includes over 40 pages of updated and new information, such as sections on royalty stamps and local contract pressings. And much more detail on labels and label availability (for example, given that the EMI one-box label first appeared in the UK in late 1969, it will surprise many to know that it first appeared in Australia in the third quarter of 1968 on Columbia releases and in April 1969 on Parlophone releases, and first debuting on a Beatles reissue in June 1969).

PDF and printed (I'm planning limited edition hardcover, but we'll see about cost) versions will be available in around a month or so.

Ross Penman, who I've seen on this board, has written a New Zealand discography. I don't think he has a webpage though.

Servi:

The Noske book (Beatles Covered) sold out in about two seconds flat, and I've looked for usedc copies without luck. It looks awesome beyond belief -- full size pictures (12" x 12") of each album cover from every country.

I would love to find a copy. I have not heard of any plans to do a second press run. I imagine production costs would be pretty high with hundreds of huge high resolution photos in four color separation printing.

Jae: give a heads up on the board when the revised edition of your book is out.

Servi: thanks for the list!

Does anybody know of similar works for other countries?

After our exchange, I tried again to find a copy of the Noske book for sale. No luck, but I did find a review that included this revealing (and funny) description:

"[T]his book is best described as pure pornography for the seasoned Beatles vinyl collector. He (and it's usually a he) will find records here that he has never seen or even heard about before. And, much like Playboy magazine, the book also has foldout pages. It's truly a feast for the eyes."

This was written by a Norwegian collector. Here's the link: http://wogew.blogspot.com/2010/04/book-rev...es-covered.html

Just bought "Beatles Enthusiasts in South Korea" which has the most extensive discography of illegal, semi-legal and legal releases from that country. It's a nicely designed book, in the style of the White Album complete with embossed THE BEATLES and printed number.
