http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beatles-please-p...9#ht_500wt_1413 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOHN-LENNON-AND-...4#ht_500wt_1413 I have emailed the guy to try to help him. Told him if someone is at it and bids he will have to pay huge Ebay fees but unfortunately he tells me that these items are very rare and worth a fortune so hell mend him! |

No, he claims that they belonged to his Dad and he has had them valued at a record fair. No idea what's going on here. |

I would be happy to sell him ten of them at one-fourth of that price (each). That way, he can make a fortune. Do you think he is buying? :P |

Me too! Obviously one of these guys who think "Beatles" - anything is worth a fortune. His listing fees must have been a lot and if someone bids...... |

Well, he's selling that Wonderloaf promo 45 at quite a steep price too, so I don't think it's just Beatle-related madness. People over-value their possessions all the time, then try to make their fortune selling them online. This is just another guy like that; there are dozens of 'em. (though he really should have cut his losses & sold the 45s to the idiot dealer who valued them.) |

Agreed totally. I tried to help him but he just would not listen. Hell mend him. It so annoys me to see so many people list run of the mill stuff as "rare". Yes only sold 1 million copies.... |

There was a whole weekend of free listing in UK due to Er' Majesty's Jubilee, so no fees maybe. Love the Woolworth's one, I collected Embassy Label for a while, once went as high as 50p. Can imagine the dealer though, well thats £5000, thats £3000, the old fashioned Please Please Me Stereo Gold label, well I'll take that off your hands for a fiver, there not very popular. |

For pure comedy, my favorite listings are ones like this that include, at the bottom, in large red letters, "SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY!" Seriously, though, listings like these ones are head scratchers. There has to be more to the story. I have a few theories: 1. If the listing is filled with typos, has no pictures, and is incomprehensible, my working hypothesis is that the seller has some form of mental illness. 2. If the listing is for a valuable item, but the asking price is simply unrealistic (for example, a VG version 2 mono Introducing the Beatles for $500), my working hypothesis is that the seller isn't knowledgeable enough to grasp the nuances of version and condition. He knows that one sold for $1,000, and figures if he has a $500 starting price, it will definitely sell for more than that. He probably thinks he's being reasonable. 3. If the listing is filled with hyperbole, all caps, exclamation point, etc., the seller is gambling that he can fleece a newbie. Not cool. 4. If the listing talks about things that make the LP valuable other than the LP itself (where and when he bought it, the relative/celebrity/collector who previously owned it, his email exchange with Bruce Spizer about it, etc.), then the seller is incorporating his sentimental value into the asking price. Any other theories? |

I'll go with your #1 - more delusional than mentally ill perhaps, but in similar territory. :) I'm amused by the fact that he prices it at a minimum of £5k, yet still added £4.50 postage. I like to think I'd have been prepared to waive the P&P if someone equally as misguided had bought it. |

If somebody paid me 5000 GBP for this non-rare, blurry-photo 45, I would agree to personally deliver it, at my expense, anywhere in the world I could travel to without serious risk of death, kidnapping, or imprisonment. |
