Frank, can I get you to clear something up for me please?

I've been looking for a US promo PL/SFF on and off for a little while now and its just come to my attention that there was a "reissue" in the 70's (?).

Is this a legit reissue or, like Let It Be, countefeit (rather than bootleg)?

Is there any way of telling the difference between a real one and a "reissue"?

And is the reissue any good - the price difference alone may make it worthwhile to get one of them rather than the 67 model! :o

And lastly there are a lot of promo PL/SFF with the picture sleeve - did this come out with the promo disc? or just the regular release?

Capitol never reissued the record.
What is called a "reissue" is a counterfeit.

Some fakes are easier to spot than others.

This one is genuine:
on eBay now
The color is yellowish, but not a pure yellow.

The genuine record was pressed at Capitol's Los Angeles plant. While the matrix number itself is etched by hand into the matrix, there are other symbols (including Capitol's factory mark) that are stamped in by machine.

Copies with a washed-out lemon yellow color are fakes.
Copies with matte (flat) labels are fakes.
Copies with blurry print are fakes.
Copies with some of the print in a different font are fakes.

There are fewer counterfeits of the CANADIAN white-label promo, but there are also fewer genuine copies. Canadian copies also have the alternate mix.

What about this one:

It was the one I was bidding on when I found out about the repro ones - how can you tell??

That sleeve is a counterfeit -- it isn't folded properly -- so odds are the record is, too. The label looks too yellow. Probably from the early 1980's, but it could be a late 70's fake.
