...............is the number of Beatle albums listed as rare export copies. You know the ones I mean, Abbey road, White Album and Let it be on the "one box EMI label". Those that have matt labels and without "Made in Gt.Britain are far eastern/ Malasian??? pressings and not exports. They fetch good money like the fake demos but are NOT exports. I never get a reply from a seller when I point this out, I wonder why?? Makes my blood boil. Everyone be really careful when bidding on so called rare beatles records. Post on here if you are unsure, someone should know.

yes i see a lot of White Albums around like that 1 box export when they may have UK sleeves but they clearly do not have UK labels, the layout and the fonts are all wrong for one thing....

and they sell for good money too......amazing...

I don't really feel sorry for the buyers, they shouldn't be so stupid to rely on a seller's description, they should have informed themselves, there are plenty of books and websites on hand to identify a real export from these kind of editions.

What really gets on my tit is the avalanche of fake acetates. They used to come mainly from Italy and Hungary, but now there's a US seller as well who's putting them on Ebay literally by the hundreds (check "Rock 45 acetate").
These are clearly fakes, whereas a Malaysian Parlophone White Double is at least still a Malaysian White Double despite the misleading description. This acetates business is pure theft.

And Ebay is doing NOTHING about it.

... I never get a reply from a seller when I point this out, I wonder why??

I was thinking about honest selling and buying which is being discussed here and I am just curious: do you also point out to a seller that the record he is selling for 5 pounds at a record fair is actually worth 50, or 500 ?? Or do you just buy it for 5 pounds ?
If we had to correct every mistake in Ebay listings, we wouldn't have time for anything else would we ?? IMO, these buyers are stupid and they have too much money (which is a danerous combination).
A buyer who pays hundreds of pounds for a Malaysian export press is just stupid, but on the other hand someone who is not interested in record collecting may find it extremely stupid that someone pays hundreds of pounds for a genuine export pressing. Is't all relative, it's all in the mind. Value is only determined by what you are willing to pay for it. For example, I would never pay a penny for a Yoko record, even if it's the one of which 6 copies were pressed only.

I have told sellers that they had very rare records.
Usually, though, the ones that I see wind up selling for about what they are worth -- unless they are seriously wrongly advertised. Other careful buyers have already noticed the item.

Only rarely -- often in group lots -- have I found rare Beatles records tucked away for cheap.
Even in that case, I recall telling someone that his lot was going to sell for a large price because one of the items was worth a few thousand.

Here's why I TELL sellers:
There is always someone -- perhaps one of you! -- who will offer the seller a "low ball" price for an item.
E.g., The current bid is 3 pounds.
The low-ball seller offers 50 to take it off and sell it privately.
The ignorant seller thinks, "Wow, I can get 50 from this joker."
Unfortunately for the rest of us -- and for the seller -- his stereo gold-label PPM LP would have sold for far more than fifty.
So if it looks as though the seller is ignorant, I may tell him something like, "I have placed a SERIOUS bid, and your item should sell for a large sum. Please do not take it off for a low-ball offer."
I have written to a few who had just received and were considering offers. They made much more by leaving the record online, and even if I didn't win, I'd write to congratulate the seller on making a good decision.
A few times, I contacted a seller AFTER the fact who had sold the record via a low-ball offer. "I hope you made at least one thousand on the deal; otherwise, you were robbed."

I love buying blind. Picture of sleeve, simple description such as Beatles Record. 99p, I'll put a bid in. Had a good week so put in a bid for this. I haven't a clue what I have bought except it is a later release and they probably haven't a clue what they have sold but at least I'll get a good read out of it.

Excellent 2 box EMI and a book to boot, probably the right price and I didn't have a stereo copy.
