Just wondered if anybody has bought the two new McCartney remasters that were released today (McCartney & McCartney II). I don't know whether to buy or not. If anyone has them can you tell me what the sound is like and if they're worth getting. |

I have been thinking about that as well, but I asked myself if I really needed them and I landed on no. <_< I'm more comfortable with the originals, and even if they are remastered they're probably only marginally better. I'm not sure the bonus tracks are worth it either.... |

I've opted for the two vinyl sets, because they were relatively cheap at Amazon USA (40 Euros for both, including shipping), and no doubt somewhere along the line I will buy the DeLuxe sets..... |

Can't justify the outlay - £60 on Amazon for the McCartney set, and it's only 2 CDs and a DVD! I'd quite like to get hold of the extras, but not at that price. Also, can anyone confirm, are the "Live at Glasgow" tracks on CD2 just the tracks from the "Last Flight" bootleg, or have they been better produced? I was there so I'd quite like to have them, but again, not at this price, especially if they're no better than the bootleg versions. (Which I may, or may not, already have. ) |

It's 2 CDs and a DVD but they are included in a hard-cover book (the BOTR book was very nice !). and McC II is 4 discs! I bought them via paulmccartney.com. In total 7 CDs/DVDs and 4 vinyl records for 156 euro incl shipping. IMO the price is OK (buying via amazon.com is not a wise option in my country as I paid $40 tax last time when I ordered BOTR deluxe). I read a lot of complaints about these reissue on the web: "does Paul really need the money?" (and that kind of nonsense); "The price is too high" (yes, the time that the Beatles gave away free flexi singles unfortunately is over); "I don't need any reissues, I prefer originals" (for some tracks this IS the original because they were not released officially before. In theory we don't need any reissues indeed but look elsewhere at this forum and see it is filled with hundreds of reissues), "I don't like the album" (oh, but why then do you have a copy of the Two Virgins album or of that great Yoko single ??). Just my opinion as a record collector (glad Paul is still releasing vinyl and some tracks from the archives) |

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you about the "value for money" aspects of the two recent McCartney repackages. A great deal of the "extras" included in each package HAS been available elsewhere, and the DVDs in particular seem to be little more than a gathering-up-of-what's-lying-around exercise - even if it hadn't already been available commercially, it didn't involve much effort as it had been already created. I have no doubt the hardback book is very nice, (there may be some nice new photos, but is there really much new "info"?) and I would have purchased both sets at say £30 each, but not at the inflated prices currently being quoted. I have no problem at all with remasters and reissues; I am genuinely delighted when previously unavailable material becomes available; but I don't like being taken advantage of, and that is what I feel is happening here. |
