Yes, will hopefully see him for the 3rd time live on July 9 during a festival here in Holand. He'll play only for an hour, which probably is enough ;) |

I wondered why there was only one more post in this thread - maybe you all knew something I didn't! Just back from the Ringo gig in Glasgow tonight. Apparently it's the first time he's palyed Glasgow since 1965. I don't imagine he'll be back, and, to be honest, I'd be surprised if he's invited! The venue was less than half full, a direct result of tickets being priced at around £55 plus £8 booking fee! I have to say I don't think the All Starr Band concept works particularly well over here, when most of the members had almost all their success in the States. Nobody was really interested in hearing Wally Palmar singing The Romantics' two US hits, or Richard Page doing the two Mister Mister hits, although at least they were a little more familiar. Rick Derringer was a little more entertaining, with the McCoys "Hang On Sloopy", and a decent version of "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" including a really OTT solo. Gary Wright was tolerated because of his long-standing connection with both George and Ringo - his "Dream Weaver" was good, but "Your Love Is Alive" was a chore. Having said all that, Edgar Winter is the exception that proves the rule; a decent version of "Free Ride" and the highlight of the night, a ten-minute wig-out version of "Frankenstein", featuring Edgar on synths, sax, and drums! Then there was Ringo. Unfortunately we didn't get much of Ringo - six of his solo tracks and six Beatles or Beatles-related songs - "Honey Don't", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Yellow Submarine", "Boys", "Act Naturally" and "With a Little Help From My Friends". I would say that, time-wise, there was about 30%-40% of Ringo, and 60%-70% of the other guys. He came onstage to "It Don't Come Easy", and never really got into that song properly, and the band totally overpowered "Back Off Boogaloo". "Photograph" was pretty good, definitely Ringo's best performance of the night, but not as entertaining as Edgar's "Frankenstein". (The other three Ringo tracks were "Choose Love", "The Other Side of Liverpool", and "Peace Dream" - all pleasant enough, but a bit bland.) He didn't play "Snookeroo" "You're Sixteen", "Oh My My", "No No Song", or "Oo-wee". No support; on stage at 7:30 and back off at 9:20. Ended with "With A Little Help From My Friends" and a quick chant of "Give Peace A Chance", and no encore. The venue was totally devoid of atmosphere, probably because it was only half full, so he may not have been called back for an encore anyway! Everyone I have spoken to was disappointed with the performance, and most felt a little cheated. I was pretty disappointed myself, but at least that's one more ticked off the list. I would have kicked myself if I hadn't gone. :( |

The show I went to was not too bad, but Ringo's drumming was rather poor. The other drummer did all the work, while Ringo was just tapping along a little bit. |

Hi, yes I went to Ringo's gig in July 2011 at Bournemouth. I sat front row middle and enjoyed the performance. Edgar Winter was amazing, Rick Derringer's guitar playing was pretty awesome, I agree with vinylscot about Wally Palmer though, he seemed slightly out of his depth. I thought Ringo was amazing for his years though, photograph and with a little help from my friends was a high point. I was happy because I got the only Ringo head shake in my direction with the peace signs for good measure. It was wonderwall to see 'the nicest Beatle' still doing his stuff in 2011. Rock on Ringo!!! :D |
