So, you think they pop in from time to time to see how us kids are behaving..... ;)

So, why did a couple of guys with much knowledge and passion for The Beatles records decide to set up an exellent web site,
sharing their knowledge with the rest of the world, for so to abandon ship never to be seen again?
Maybe they felt threatened by the knowledge of the rest of crew, that their authority as experts was watered out, and the fun they had disappeared?
I'm not sure, I just whish they would come back and sort things out!

I don't think it's a matter of them being put off by the knowledge of the other members, I seem to remember that they simply didn't have the time to contribute or keep things in order.
I guess we've been lucky that this site is still existing, but I, too, fear that they might pull the plug at the end of this month......
I wouldn't know what there is we can do about this, but it is a scenario we have to consider......

I have sent Mike (the moderator) a PM, I'm sure he won't mind me repeating it here in public:

Hi Mike

As a member of Beatlescollecting.co.uk I have been enjoying the site for a long time now. The activity on the site has been improving significantly in recent months and there are now lots of people contributing to various threads with scans and very interesting info. There seems to be, however, a growing concern among a few members (including me) what will happen to the site after 29 May, when the lease of the domain expires.
We haven't seen/heard much from the moderators recently and we fear that the site might die a silent death.
I do not know how often you or any of the other mods check the site (we all seem to behave!), but I think I speak for all members when I say that it would be reassuring if you could report whether the site will live on.....

Thanks,
Ed ("the57thbeatle")

According to the members list, last activity from any of them was over a year ago, and I believe they have to log on to see their PM's, meaning it would be registered in the list if they logged on.

Pacey would be a better option I think, and as far as I know Henry have had some contact with him previously.....

Well, I wish you luck getting in contact. But if the email address is '@beatlescollecting.co.uk' then I doubt you'll get an answer. Maybe Henry has got an alternative address for Pacey.

Hopefully, if the worst does come to the worst, Bruce's new book will gather together much of the information collected here. But sadly a lot of hard work will disappear, which is a great shame. I have contributed very little, but have learn't an awful lot.

We should probably start hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. What alternative sites/forums does anybody use and recommend? Where shall we all reconvene?! :)

Pacey is also active at the recordcollectorsguild forum RCG Maybe he could be contacted via that if no one has his address...
I also see Mikey there very occasionally. If 57th doesn't get a reply, maybe we should contact via RCG.
I don't think everyone was threatened by the the immense knowledge (and collection) of others. As member number 3 I can say that the forum has not always been as active as it is now. At some point there was very little input from anybody and we lost some very good contributors due to that (Paul, Ztox and others, where are you ??). I agree we must consider an alternative in case this forum shuts down one day.

How could someone continue to run this forum?

Does it cost any money?

We have to differentiate between the forum and the site where the labelography is.
It is the lease of the domain beatlescollecting.co.uk that expires on the 29th, not the forum, but for what I know there might also be an end date for that too...

I believe it will cost some money but not very much....

With luck we will be able to carry on one way or another. However, I would like to echo Henry's sentiments. I haven't contributed too much, as I said before, but have learn't loads and been thoroughly entertained.

My email address is mr-john-wright@hotmail.com.

My family and I are emigrating to Canada in July, so I might go quiet for a while around that time! I may have to change my focus as well - stand by for lots of questions about North American releases!!!

Hopefully we'll be speaking again soon ;)
