Anybody see the £470 McCartney that sold on ebay. Who would pay that sort of money for a £20 album tops. Won't mention the seller but he writes the lyrics and a 1000 word essay. Most of the stuff he writes is tosh but people fall for it. On this one he says that 1st pressings of the sleeve have coloured writing on, well they do and so do all the other pressings inc. the Fame release, absolutely amazing!!! He also has a different buying id that I've blocked. Shocking!!! |

Yeah, I saw that one. It sounds a bit daft what he says about the matrix, but I cannot say if he's right or not.... Anyway it's a lot of money and I'd rather put my money on this McCartney album. £320 on ebay 1U-1G/1U-1A, I didn't know 1U matrixes existed for this.... <_< |

I know the guy and I have nothing but admiration for the fact that he can get 500 quid for a 20 quid record. However he is so up his own arse and I found him not a very nice guy to try to deal with, however fair play to him but you are right he is not adverse to a bit of dis-information thats for sure... I didn't see his listing but I did see the other one Baard, I reclon that 1U 1U is a mistake, the earlist I know is 2U 2U and if it was a 1U 1U he would have made a bigger thing of it surely....?? The Gramophone co sleeves are interesting, I have one of those and I also have an Apple sleeve that opens the front end, not the back, has anybody seen one like that before ?? I also have a KT stamped disc, however if I sold them I'd be lucky to get 40 even with a lot of bs in the listing lol lol lol ! |

I know EMI made a lot of blunders, but considering the promo press release he may have a point. The 1U matrix could be right, I mean why shouldn't it, most of the early solo albums have 1U's. A different mix was probably needed so the common 2U was made...?? The early mothers/stampers also indicates a promo. What you mate ( :P ) says regarding the text colours on the rear of the sleeves is interesting, but I'm not sure he's correct there either. I have a Gramophone and a MPL and they are identical when it comes to the colour, the only difference, apart from the credit, is that McCartney on the spine is written the other way round on the MPL. Both mine opens on the back end. |

Regarding the colour print, it's the list of song titles, they have a very feint hue to them on all sleeves, it is there but maybe faded to white. |

it seems that the Gramophone co sleeves are different to all the other versions in this respect of the spine text |

Hmmm, maybe there are different Gramophone Co's'?? The one I've got has EMI Records (The Gramophone Co Ltd) at the bottom, and it has McCartney the normal way, IE like most Beatles albums. The MPL however, is upside down in comparison. Is your Gramophone like mine Henry? |

Both my Apple, and Gramophone sleeves have the 'McCartney' facing the normal way; ie: the 'M' at the top of the sleeve..... The Fame issue has a completely different spine layout. |

Yes My Gramophone is the same with with the M at the top. However every Apple copy I have seen has the txt " retrograde " ie upside down, like Sgt Pepper.
.....but I've never seen a apple sleeve wit the txt the right way up so thats a real odd one !!! |

So, to sum up the McCartney spine: Gramo - normal Apple - both ways MPL - upside down :) |

I would say Apple 99 per cent upside down, I've never seen one the right way up as yet.... |

I just got in an Apple sleeve with McCartney on the spine the right way. If that means they're more common than first thought, I cannot say. Maybe if people checked their Apple sleeves, we could find out. So far we have two the right way... :) |

Did the Apple sleeve pre-ceed the Gramaphone sleeve? I've long thought it did; the reason I ask, I very won a Pathe Marconi contract (made in UK text) pressing of this album, and it came with the Apple Records sleeve! Oddly enough too; I was quite 'shocked' at the thin vinyl used... all my other Pathe Marconi's are good solid, heavy-weight vinyls. The sound quality is fine though; typical of the Pathe's; they always sounded a little more bass-heavy, and a little punchier somehow - to me anyway! Cheers, Steve. |
