I really guess, as said earlier, that most (if not all) of these jukebox-singles were made of solid centre pressings by cutting the hole out either in small shops or in factories of countries these singles were exported to like Belgium or Scandinavia for example.

yes i confess i have always suspected that that might be possible, if so then the whole juke box thing is a blind alley anyway.....

It's interesting that all of those are singles that are far more common as solid-centre releases. Whether they were used in jukeboxes remains to be proven, but the dinking of the centres took place after they left EMI.

I remember a local record shop having a drill bit that cut these out. Quite a few customers asked for this to be done at time of purchase. I'm really not sure if this was done at the factory or not, my guess would be not, IMO only!

I agree , you can clearly see that the centres have been cut out will a circular drill. If EMI had have manufactured them this way they would be perfect , like the US ones.

yes that might be a logical explanation..

However I have to disagree with Frank slightly, Eleanor Rigby is far more common as a push out, solids arrive late in 66 so probably all the first issue Eleanor's were push outs but there was still demand enough for that single at the end of 66 to mean that solids are not that uncommon , after that it's pretty much 50/50 up until Something. For some reason Solids become the " default for EMI between late 1969 and early 1972. No idea why that is. The arrival of the polo ring push outs in 72 then puts almost a total end to the solids certainly as we knew them anyway.

However none of that seems to detract from the theory that these juke boxes certainly seem to be more common after the dominance of solids late in 1969. There just weren't enough push outs for the juke box suppliers to use to they had to drill out solids ! The juke box buyers either got emi to do it or more likely they did it themselves..on an industrial scale !

as just posted, I also got finally a dark apple non polo Get Back without SIUK....there's a thread on this somewhere ( as usual can't find it ) where is was speculated that these may not exist...well now I can confirm that they DO indeed exist and whats more had I check this thread I would have been able to confirm that as there is a picture on here !!

Still a nice find though...not listing that one lol !!

Just picked up a nice solid without NCB both sides for 50pence. How rare are these compared to other copies?

Not massively rare but they are the more desirable for sure....

Cataloging my UK singles tax codes I noticed that they occur (in my collection at least!) less frequently on the Apple singles. Is this a fair observation, and if so how rare are they? I noticed a copy of Get back (solid, NCB both sides) that was destined for ebay had a faint KT tax code, so I put it back in my keepers pile.
