This is going to be messy....

Baard your Hey Jude does look like what I would call a Decca...however...

after 1965 many Pye push out pressings are almost identicle looking to Decca .....

What we used to call Pye pressings before 1965 we know believe to be Oriole which of course was absorbed by CBS...

Confused, yes me too...

As for stampers I am no expect on non EMI stampers but Baard you are right about BUCKINGHAM so it is a PYE or a Decca???

Does the *mass* of the disc offer us a way of differentiating between different contract companies? I remember reading somewhere that there were marked differences between EMI & Pye pressings - the latter being around 10% heavier...

Again after reading the article, and if it is correct, the indications says it is Pye; the gap is just over 2mm, the secondary ridge is only visible on the pronge and the before mentioned hand etched letter. But again I'm far from an expert on contracts!

I haven't any batteries in my scale so I cannot weigh it, but the same article says the one EMI is ca 10g less than Pye, 36g.

But we know the diff netween EMI and Pye, the question is what is the difference between post 65 Pye and Decca ???

Bill commented on the different mass between EMI and Pye, that's why I mentioned it!

Compare points 3, 4 and 7 for Pye and Decca in the article and the differences are rather obvious. The second ridge difference is visible, the gaps are measurable with a caliper and the hand etched letters are only found on Pye. The weight difference should also be measurable.

The author could of course be mistaken, but I have no reason to believe that, and I cannot compare the two as I haven't got a Decca contract - only the Pye. :D

Contract pressing (Pye?).

The contract pressing in the post made

is the CBS pressing. Notice the fuzzy matte label, the ridge at the edge of the punch-out centre, and the pressing indentation that is closer to the edge of the label. On most pressings, the indentations are further in, but on CBS it's near the top of the Apple stem.

I finally received a copy of a " PYE " contract and I think it is a PYE comparing it to my LOLA from 1970. The first picture on this thread is a contract press as I also have one and I know think it might also be a PYE but a solid PYE.

IF so for contracts on HJ we have 2 Pyes, solid and push out, Philips and a CBS push out, but has anybody seen an actual Decca ???

I have two Pyes and an EMI with "polo ring." I have never seen a real Decca.

Hey Jude - Philips with Factory Sample on e-bay:

Not sure if this sticker is valid, but on a Philips it may be.

We may have had this conversation before.

I've been bidding on that one. If I win it, I'll let everyone know what I think of the sticker ... and I'll post a large scan if I can.

It would seem that that copy is actually being sold by one of our members - and they have previously contributed to this very thread! So hopefully, if you don't win it Frank, we can still get some scans. Good luck though! ;)
