As a matter of interest, here's a mispressed label

I've always been interested (well, that's perhaps too strong a word) - about the way that MMT couldn't use the 7TCE matrix numbers, as it was to be released in mono and stereo.

And as I Am The Walrus had already been pressed up with the matrix 7XCE 18434, they used that for side 2 of MMT and used the next three numbers for sides 1, 3 and 4 respectively. (Duplicating the numbers for the stereo 7YCE matrixes.)

Possibly even more interesting, was the fact that Parlophone didn't release any singles (or at least didn't allocate matrix numbers to other singles) between Hello, Goodbye/IATW and MMT.

Most interesting of all (OK, I'm stretching it now) was the fact that the next matrix number from the Parlophone stable, 7XCE 18438, was allocated to Lady Madonna. Now that's prolific :D

Belatedly, thank you the57thbeatle for starting these EP threads off and (for me) breathing life back into the forum. :)

Bill,

Very interesting about those matrix numbers.
I've always wondered why Side 2 had an 'earlier' matrix no. than side 1, but this explains it all......
You know, it's so bleedin' obvious that I never even noticed that! Call me dumb....

Thanks,
Ed

Ed

If you start the thread on the singles can you please do, say 1 per week as trying to take everything in at once, as you've done with the ep's is a bit too much. it also keeps the interest going for a bit longer. Great effort with the ep's tho'.

Chris-

You can't stop me once I get going.....
But, yes, I agree that it is a bit much to take all in in one throw.
But perhaps it's an idea if the moderators use the info in all these threads and put them in the Labelology section. Because as threads they get messed up within a few days.

But don't worry, I'll do the singles in a slower tempo...... ;)

I think the way this one was done was great! All entries are easy to spot in the forums and I'm sure there are many variations yet to be found!
Can't really see how one a week is a better way to do it really.

I also think that anyone who wants can start on the singles, I'm sure Ed has no problem with that, after all this is something we have talked about doing a long time ago.
