Hi,

I’ve just had an unfortunate experience with ‘that lot’ at the Post Office (PO), you know the ones who dont care and bend and throw our precious vinyl around. I was expecting a record through the post, two weeks later I hadn’t received it. It turned out that it was sent 1st class recorded delivery, and to my horror I was told the package WAS delivered and that it HAD been signed for…. “NOT BY ME”, I told the PO !.

It seems that even sending something by ‘recorded delivery’ isn’t safe, the PO said they would invested this strange ‘ squiggle’ (signature) they have on their system…”it’s a waste of time”, I told them !.

So if your thinking of sending out precious records under the value of £37 recorded, think twice !, save your pennies.

The record was a copy of ‘Revolver’, but it looks like I will never get to see how good or how bad it was !

WC.

Hi Will...I had that same experience last year with a LP from the States (I'm in Canada), and unfortunately, I never did receive it. If a postal station asks for no identification from the signer?? , apparently tracing them is next to impossible - no kidding...boy, I was pissed!

On another note though, I've heard all sorts of horror stories about the UK postal service, and yet, I have always had super service from them, and that is literally hundreds of LPs, EPs, and 45s without incident. I've even had receipt in 4 and 5 days!! But, I feel like you about our North American system, so go figure.

Cheers...Mark

To be fair I am generally happy with the service I get from the UK Post office, items that have been damaged have usually been as a result of poor packing from the vendor. I seem to be on first name terms with most of my postmen now and when they don't catch me in I am lucky as the sorting office is at the top of my road hehehe!!

At the end of the day we can't expect any postal system to handle something with care just becaise it has a sticker on saying so, remember most of the process is automated so stuff just has to be packed with that in mind.

I got a record broken the other day that had been sent almost loose in a mailer, unbeleivable and the vendor won't communicate with me so it's another paypal claim doh!!!

Bit late I know, but wanted to add my bit to this.
Received my new 'With the Beatles' LP from Muffmasterh, (fabulous audio quality by the way!) today. I asked him to use recorded delivery, which he did. Came home from work at 5.00PM to find the record on the doorstep, having been signed for by someone; who, I don't know. Could even have been the postman I suppose.
Anyone could have walked off with it, and, because it had ben signed for, probebly no compensation!
In fairness, most recorded deliveries are returned to the sorting office and I collect and sign there. Laughably, the sorting office staff demand a driving licence or something else as I.D. before they'll give me the package!
Anyway, this recorded delivery experience turned out OK.

Cheers

Richard

Hi,

Yeah and the worst thing is, when it has been signed for by ‘someone’ ( anyone !) the receiver, ie the person who it is addressed to is responsible !

I have been told by the sorting office that in gen. the Postman SHOULD NOT leave a package on the door step, but they do it all the time !.

Anyway my situation finally resolved itself, by this record being ‘reposted’ ! to my address and on that occasion I was in and I signed for it, but I was in the process of making a claim !

So I have no idea what happened to it first time round, this is why it is so important to add the ‘senders’ address etc to the package.

But it turned out to be worth all the hassle in the end, I had bought a copy of Revolver ‘blind’ off our favourite internet auction site for £9.50 and it turned out to be a ‘Remix 11’ pressing…… ‘which was nice’ !

WC.

Well at least it found it's way back to the seller and then back to you, and a 606-1 for 9.50, well done!!!
