I have this book called Vinyl Junkies by Brett Milano: http://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Junkies-Advent...41640252&sr=8-2 It is great for anyone who collects vinyl. It is not about how to collect but why we collect and great interviews with vinyl collectors... |

I've just finished reading it myself - quite a good read but I found it a little frustrating. Firstly because it was US-based, so I wasn't able to associate with the characters very easily. Secondly, the emphasis was placed on 'mega' collectors, who have 10,000+ records - if I had the money, I'd be there with them, but I would have liked it to focus on a few serious, but cash-limited, folk - like myself :) Finally - not enough Beatles (of course). There was an interesting section in which he discussed the psychology behind collecting - it's a serotonin imbalance, apparently, which also makes us 'gifted'. :D |

Ha, finally someoone else who read it ! I agree that the 10,000+ collectors are not so interesting, some of them are more accumulators than collectors. The part about psychology I also found very interesting and it made me recognize some things. Vinyl junkies is one of my favorite books ever. I must say I re-read the book about five times already (!) but it is not as good as the documentary "Vinyl" by Alan Zweig. This is about USA megacollectors, some even don't have room to walk anymore because there is only records records records.... |
