This was my reply to a collector who came across a seller asking an excessive amount, even by the usual standards, $600.00 for a Mono Sargent Pepper's LP. As I've mentioned before elsewhere, I too have been guilty of overpaying, but when all the dust settles, I think this is how I think. ;) :D
By the way, on the other Forum, no one responded to my diatribe... Regards...Mark |

Beatle albums are way more common than people think. Copies sold in the millions back in the 60's and today a lot of them are still around. Just today at a carboot sale I saw original mono copies of Hard Days Night and With the Beatles (They were priced at £10 and £15 respectively and in VG so I didn't get 'em). One thing I can't stand are 'book experts' where someone reads a book and immediately declares themselves an expert in the field. I know of one person who thought he was a Beatles expert purely because he had a copy of the 2006 Rare Record Price Guide. |

I still have not bought any price guides. I have seen them... recent releases, and actually have checked some out of the library, on occasion, for grins, more than anything. Being retired and somewhat comfortable, I really could care less about record values, frankly. I'd rather go fishing on my boat. I maintain that price guides are horse hockeypucks, at best... for the most part. Excellent discography, but all those common "list prices" have convinced 2nd hand store owners, antique store owners, etc... all across the globe, that herp alpert, barb streisand and fleetwood mac rumours have value. Thanks. Awesome. Add some more commons at 8 - 20 each!! Yea, that outta do it. Attn Price Guide publishers: Lose the used car salesmanspeak! Black Gold? How cheesey can you possibly get? Fire your marketing staff, fer Christs' sake, or go sell Buicks, OR actually print a price guide without all the commons. C'mon already. Get real. The karma points alone are worth it. |
